Trump Wrong To Allow 600k Communist Chinese Into US

THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO STAND. MANY CHINESE STUDENTS AND VISITORS ARE SPIES. I greatly admire President Trump, and there are few times that I will say that he is nuts. But this is clearly one of them. 

And it isn’t disloyal to say it. He must change his proposed policy.

In a shocking announcement, Trump announced recently that the United States was going to let in hundreds of thousands of Chinese students.

Referring to Communist China, Trump said: “…we are going to allow their students to come in. We are going to allow it. It’s very important – 600,000 students.”

He added that the U.S. would struggle financially without Chinese students. In this case, as in some others, Trump is dangerously thinking economics instead of national security. And even on the economics of the issue, he is wrong.

After the administration’s much needed crackdown on Chinese students launched earlier this year — as recently as May, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Trump would “aggressively” revoke the visas of Chinese students — many of his supporters, including me, are stunned and outraged by Trump’s statement.

Trump ally Laura Loomer made a series of posts on X opposing Trump’s idea. One post read: “Nobody, I repeat nobody, wants 600,000 more Chinese ‘students’ aka Communist spies in the United States.”

Especially since in May, Rubio posted on X: “The US will begin revoking visas of Chinese students, including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party [CCP] or studying in critical fields.”

The CCP is the controlling party in China, with about 100 million card-carrying members. China has about 400 million families, so on average, one in every four Chinese citizens has an immediate relative in the CCP.

While not stated at the time, the fields China is targeting are thought to include advanced science, technology, engineering, and medicine programs.

National security experts understand that the Chinese Communist Party is aggressively placing Chinese researchers in top American institutions to access sensitive technology.

But China’s communist leaders are happy and hopeful.

On Wednesday, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed hope that Trump would act on his commitment to admit Chinese students into U.S. universities. He also urged the US to stop “unprovoked harassment, interrogation and deportation” of Chinese students.

Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said Trump’s recent statements stem from a “rational economic view” since 15% of U.S. universities would go out of business without international students.

This prompted MAGA firebrand and Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene to post on X post: “If refusing to allow these Chinese students to attend our schools causes 15 percent of them to fail then these schools should fail anyways because they are being propped up by the CCP.”

She added: “We should not let 600,000 CHINESE students attend American colleges and universities that may be loyal to the CCP.”

But Trump is still fixated on the superficial economics of the issue. According to NAFSA: Association of International Educators, the 277,398 Chinese students in the U.S. in 2023-24 would have contributed over $11 billion to the U.S. economy that year.

What Trump apparently needs to see is that this is a drop in the bucket compared to the hundreds of billions, if not trillions of dollars’ worth of sensitive defense and scientific technology that will be stolen and used to arm the Chinese military.

Much of China’s technological and military rise is based on the exploitation of Western companies and universities. According to the Brookings Institution Chinese laws compel citizens to provide intelligence to the government, raising concerns about coercion and the potential for data access and sabotage. 

China exploits the openness of Western universities and companies, using professional networking sites like LinkedIn and apps like WeChat to find individuals with access to sensitive information.

Additionally, the FBI has investigated efforts by Chinese agents in the U.S. to plant listening devices near sensitive U.S. facilities and is concerned about Chinese land purchases near critical infrastructure. Meanwhile Chinese operatives have repeatedly surveilled and tried to breach U.S. military bases, especially Marine installations.

And just this week, American intelligence identified China as the “top threat” in a report on espionage notingits targeting of U.S. and Western research, science, universities and technology.

The report was compiled by the National Counterintelligence and Security Centre, along with the department of Education and other federal agencies.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), which oversees the counter-intelligence center, and is led by Tulsi Gabbard, said the report was designed to “alert US colleges and universities about increasing foreign threats to their research and to arm them with mitigation strategies for addressing these threats.”

The report specifically noted Beijing’s ‘Thousand Talents Plan’ to use its spies to recruit scientific and technological expertise from abroad in fields such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, quantum technology, semiconductors, optics, hypersonics and energy systems.

It added that China, along with other adversaries, “infiltrate intelligence operatives into universities who then pose as students to collect information on classmates and research.”

The report said:

The Chinese Communist Party and Chinese intelligence services represent the broadest, most active, and persistent espionage threat to the US. It also remains the top threat to US technology competitiveness.

Trump needs to listen to his own DNI, Gabbard. China is a mortal enemy that poses an existential threat to the United States. He must reverse himself on this and return to his earlier policy restricting Chinese access to U.S. technology.
