Congressional investigators reveal that President Joe Biden's brother James Biden wrote Joe a $200,000 check on the same day James received that exact amount from a healthcare firm that was seeking foreign investors.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, who revealed a copy of the check itself, says the payment is proof that Joe Biden directly got cash from his family's influence-peddling operation.
“In 2018, James Biden received $600,000 in loans from, Americore—a financially distressed and failing rural hospital operator. According to bankruptcy court documents, James Biden received these loans ‘based upon representations that his last name, ‘Biden,' could ‘open doors' and that he could obtain a large investment from the Middle East based on his political connections,'” the Committee announced in a statement.
In at least one case, a payment from Americore was immediately followed by a transfer of that same amount directly to Joe Biden.
“On March 1, 2018, Americore wired a $200,000 loan into James and Sara Biden's personal bank account – not their business bank account. On the same day, James Biden wrote a $200,000 check from this same personal bank account to Joe Biden,” the Committee announced.
The memo line on the check claimed it was for a “loan repayment.”
It is unknown if the payment actually was a loan payment, or something else.
Comer pointed out that even if it was an actual loan repayment, “it's still troubling that Joe Biden's ability to be paid back by his brother depended on the success of his family's shady financial dealings.”
Joe Biden previously claimed to be unaware that his son Hunter and other family members were peddling the Biden name to foreign nationals. It was later revealed that Joe Biden took part in phone calls to people from whom Hunter was seeking contracts.
Biden also claims to have never personally benefitted from the payments, but the existence of the James Biden $200,000 check, and multiple financial accounts Joe Biden shared with Hunter Biden, cast doubt on those claims.
“The House Oversight Committee will soon announce our next investigative actions and continue to follow the money. The bank records don't end here. There is more to come,” Comer added.
