Canada Let Him Out. Now Another Child Is In The Hospital.

A 25-year-old man with a prior child rape conviction has been arrested in Canada for allegedly breaking into a home and sexually assaulting a toddler.

According to Niagara Regional Police, officers received a call for “medical assistance call involving a child under the age of 5” just before 9 a.m. Sunday. Officers found signs of forced entry as paramedics rushed the young child to the hospital for advanced care, where they were later reported in stable condition.

Thanks to neighborhood security cameras, authorities quickly identified their primary suspect.

Daniel “Dani” Senecal, who uses she/her pronouns, is a registered sex offender. Senecal was convicted in 2023 for the 2021 rape and attempted strangulation of a minor. Yet just a year later, he was released and only ordered to register as a sex offender for 20 years under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act.

As the Canadian media outlet Global News reports:

He was initially charged with sexual assault, sexual interference of a person under 16 and attempt to strangle during sexual assault in a Sept. 25, 2021 incident, in Welland, Ont.

In Dec. 2023, Senecal was found guilty of sexual assault and was acquitted of the attempt to strangle charge. The sexual interference charge was stayed in accordance with R. v. Kineapple, a 1974 case that found that “where a lack of consent has been proved, age ceases to be a distinguishing factor between the two offences” and that “nobody can be convicted more than once in respect of the same act.”

Niagara Police initially described the vile crime as a “stranger attack.”

This case is already raising serious questions about Canada’s legal system, especially in Ontario, which emphasizes rehabilitation over incarceration. That includes diversion programs, conditional sentences, and restorative justice efforts like Indigenous healing circles — approaches that often take precedence over public safety.

Critics say that approach is failing.

Retired FBI agent and NewsNation commentator Jennifer Coffindaffer posted on X:

“People who are pedophiles don’t stop. When will the courts ever learn this? Also, how can the rape of a minor yield such a light sentence? It’s appalling.”

She continued:

“I hope this poor child can someday heal, both physically and mentally, from this assault that never should have happened because Senecal should have been locked up.”

Coffindaffer ended her comments with a jarring comparison — posting a side-by-side image of Senecal in handcuffs and Buffalo Bill, the fictional serial killer from The Silence of the Lambs.
