Charges Dropped Against West Virginia Librarian Accused Of Threatening Trump

Prosecutors have dropped charges against a West Virginia woman accused earlier this year of using social media to recruit individuals to assassinate President Donald Trump, bringing a closely watched case to an abrupt end.

The case drew national attention after authorities alleged the woman attempted to solicit violence online. It has now been dismissed without a conviction.

Arrest and Allegations

Morgan L. Morrow, 39, a former library assistant from Ripley, was arrested in January 2026 by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said Morrow posted a message on TikTok that called for violence against the president. The post allegedly urged someone to “pursue and assassinate” Trump and included a reference suggesting a sniper with a terminal illness.

Investigators said Morrow later admitted to writing the post. According to authorities, she described it as a threat but said she did not intend to carry out any act herself.

Officials argued at the time that even without direct intent, such statements could encourage or incite others to commit violence.

Case Dismissed Over Procedure

On April 16, 2026, the Jackson County prosecutor filed a motion to dismiss the charge without prejudice.

The dismissal stemmed from a procedural issue. Authorities failed to properly advise Morrow of her Miranda rights, a requirement for statements to be used in court. As a result, her confession would likely have been inadmissible at trial.

Because of that limitation, moving forward with the case became difficult.

Response From Defense

Morrow’s attorney, Mark Atkinson, said the case should not have been brought.

“This case has been dismissed,” Atkinson said. “We feel it never should have been brought in the first place.”

What’s Next?

The Jackson County Public Library confirmed Morrow is no longer employed there following the incident.

While the case was dismissed without prejudice — meaning charges could be refiled — the lack of admissible evidence may complicate any future prosecution.

For now, the case stands closed, ending a high-profile investigation.
