Prominent conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was shot during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, earlier today. The event was part of his “American Comeback” tour, which aims to engage young conservative audiences.
The shooting occurred just as he began answering a question, believed to be about mass shootings.
Footage circulating on social media shows the moment Kirk is struck — he hunches over as blood pours down his neck, while the crowd flees in panic. According to initial reports, Kirk is in critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the neck.
A post by Justin Hicken shows an older man, allegedly the shooter, being detained by the police.
A suspect is in custody, according to an alert issued by the university to students.
In a social media post, President Trump reacted to the shooting: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”
