Convicted Pedophile And Ex-Rock Singer Killed In Prison Stabbing

Ian Watkins, the disgraced former frontman of the Welsh rock band Lostprophets, was killed over the weekend in a stabbing at HMP Wakefield, a high-security prison in northern England.

According to local media reports, Watkins, 46, was attacked and fatally wounded by another inmate either Friday or Saturday. Prison officials confirmed he died at the scene despite efforts by staff and emergency personnel to revive him.

Two male inmates, ages 25 and 43, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Watkins was serving a 29-year prison sentence, “with a further six years on license,” for a string of child sex offenses. His 2013 conviction included attempted rape of a fan’s baby, sexual assault of minors, and possession of child and animal abuse material.

The former musician had been the target of violence in prison before. In 2023, he was taken hostage and stabbed in a separate incident, but survived.

Wakefield Prison, sometimes referred to as “Monster Mansion,” houses some of the U.K.’s most dangerous offenders. It is known for housing inmates convicted of serious violent and sexual crimes.

Sky News dives deeper into the shocking fall of the ex-Lostprophets frontman — a man who once topped the U.K. charts before his heinous descent:

The singer was arrested following the execution of a drugs warrant at his Pontypridd home in September 2012 when a large number of computers, mobile phones and storage devices were seized.

Analysis of the equipment uncovered his depraved behaviour.

Watkins was previously taken to hospital after being attacked in 2023. At the time, police said his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

In 2019, he was jailed for 10 months on top of the sentence he was serving for child sex offences after he was found guilty of possessing a mobile phone in prison.

An official investigation into the killing is underway.

That was the comment I heard from a lot of Police Officers about the Prison population. “Those guys have families too”. Sending people that hurt women or children to the general population tends to clear up the problem.
