As the death toll from Hurricane Helene surpasses 200, with communities like Asheville, North Carolina, devastated by flooding, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) dropped a stunning revelation: FEMA is running out of money for hurricane relief. DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed on Wednesday that the agency doesn’t expect to have enough funds to provide assistance through the end of hurricane season, after having spent $1 billion on illegal immigration-related expenses.
“We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have,” Mayorkas stated, but added that FEMA is bracing for another hurricane, and “does not have the funds to make it through the season.”
FEMA’s Shifting Focus?
Critics have pointed to a troubling shift in FEMA’s priorities under the Biden-Harris administration, stating the agency, traditionally responsible for natural disaster response, has been redirected toward illegal immigrant resettlement. FEMA’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), for example, now channels significant funding to local organizations providing services to those encountered by DHS, including so-called undocumented migrants.
Between fiscal years 2023 and 2024, over $1 billion was allocated to EFSP, with more than $38 million going to New York City alone—a sanctuary city that used the funds to provide gift cards and hotel stays for illegal immigrants. Other recipients include counties in Arizona, California and Texas, along with organizations like Catholic Charities.
A Broader Agenda?
FEMA’s focus on immigration isn’t limited to funding. The agency has embraced a new strategic vision, with its top priority now to “Instill Equity as a Foundation of Emergency Management.” Critics argue that this focus on diversity and inclusion is diverting attention from FEMA’s core mission—protecting Americans during disasters like Hurricane Helene.
As hurricane season continues, the question remains: will FEMA find the resources to help the communities most in need, or has its focus on immigration and social programs come at the expense of public safety?

You must income qualify. Income must be derived from ongoing assets like 401 K, social security, a min of $32,000 us cash money in a bank, property in mexico worth at least $320,000 etc.
The ministry monthly amount currently id around $4000 us dollars. Every time the Mexicanim wage goes up. Under the newly elected mex president, we expect mex min wage to go up in 2025. Right now mex min wage is $12 a DAY
That is on the 4 year temporal visa. After 4 years you can apply for permanent. You have to pay for renewal each year to keep your temp visa active and then one last cost to go permanent
If you want to apply for straight permanent it’s much more expensive.
While on a Visa you still need to keep your passport up to date bc a visa is only as a guest, not a citizen
If you want to become a citizen, you must be visa permanent for 20 years, living in mexico full time, take a language proficiency test as well as a Mexican constitution test.
Easy to buy property here. Not always cheap like people think. In our little town a city lot starts at $35k us. Houses on average $99k gas is govt regulated around $5.50 a gal right now. LP gas also govt regulated
And you really do need to learn Spanish. All the gringo speaking conclaves pay higher prices than if you live directly in a town or city with the locals. Otherwise you are just another gringo outsider

I was on Katrina relief from Day 1 organizing a communication network to house, move, feed and clothe people. All via my personal computer
We were able to mobilize 1000s of volunteers across the world in the matter of 48 hours, set up a housing share network, church and charity drop offs etc.
THAT WAS 20 years ago. No star link, still paying by the minute for cell phones and internet connection.
Our citizens united across the USA it was amazing. We were boots on the ground before FEMA before Red Cross, before local and state government. We took NO money, operated at our own personal expense and time .
We directed donations to churches, Samaritan’s purse, salvation army, private past military and veterans organizations etc.
Helene is x100 compared to Katrina. The lack of help is shameless and gross. I know what it’s like to have volunteers reporting bodies rotting in the streets, etc
