SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Lindsey Buckingham, the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist and songwriter, was reportedly attacked by a woman in Santa Monica, according to initial reports online and in local media.

The two-time Grammy winner was ambushed by an alleged stalker who threw an “unknown substance” on him when he arrived for an appointment Wednesday. The nature of the substance has not been identified.

Fortunately, Buckingham was physically uninjured and has not reported any adverse health effects.

According to NBC4 Investigates, “The woman is known to Buckingham, 76, from past incidents, law enforcement sources said. An arrest is expected soon, they added.”

Authorities said they believe the woman found out when and where Buckingham had an appointment and showed up at the location. Buckingham was not injured.

Santa Monica police and the LAPD are working the case.

NBC4 Investigates has reached out to the representative of Buckingham’s for comment.

One of the most distinctive figures in rock history, Buckingham helped define Fleetwood Mac’s most successful era while also carving out a unique solo career.

Mick Fleetwood recruited Buckingham in 1975 after hearing “Buckingham Nicks,” the only album released by Buckingham and singer Stevie Nicks as a duo. Buckingham agreed to join only if Nicks was included. The decision reshaped the band’s direction, which originally had strong blues undertones.

Buckingham’s production instincts helped modernize Fleetwood Mac’s sound, particularly on “Rumours,” one of the best-selling albums of all time. He wrote and sang “Go Your Own Way,” “Second Hand News,” and “Never Going Back Again,” all during a period of intense personal turmoil within the band.

His work blended pop hooks, layered production, and intricate guitar work, helping redefine mainstream rock.
