GOP Congressman Proposes Congress Restore Order In Liberal City

-

Freshman Congressman (R-Tenn.) submitted a proposal Friday that would repeal the and give greater authority over D.C.

Citing 's rising rate, Ogles filed a bill to repeal the 1973 Home Rule Act, returning powers given to the local back to Congress.

D.C. police reported 16 homicides in the first nine days of August, a 28% year-over-year increase. The nation's capital is set to surpass 200 murders for a third straight year and may break a two-decade record before the new year.

The Washington Examiner continues:

Because of this, Ogles filed the Seat of Government Act. The bill is co-sponsored by Reps. (R-FL) and (R-MT).

Even under the Home Rule Act, Congress continues to have oversight over the district and can override local legislation. Most recently, back in March, Congress overturned Washington's crime bill, and President signed the measure to block it.

So, what do you think? Should Congress take back its “constitutional authority,” or would this proposal unfairly deny D.C. residents the authority to govern themselves?

  1. Its not just Washington, the seat of crime and corruption, it is American cities run by the Marxists. Terrible living conditions. High crime rates, emergency homelessness, expensive to live in these ugly and dangerous places. Not the America I knew and lived for. 85 years.

  2. All Congress needs to do is vote to do it. It retains control of D.C. as per Article One, section eight, clause seventeen of the Constitution. The mayor and council could sit and stew. Taking Congress to court would waste their time.

  3. DC should be given back to Maryland. This “DC statehood” issue will keep coming up year after year after year. Stop DC statehood once and for all. Give DC back to Maryland

  4. I’ll say it again, and again, and again. Our Union is no longer a Union. We have too many enemies from within. The only fix I see is for Red States to break away and create a new Union with an amended and bullet proof Constitution. We must recover our constitutional principles and values. Nohing else will do.

    • Sadly, to do anything like that would result in another civil war, and really destroy this country, When our government was formed it’s unlikely that there was any thought of making DC a state, it was a place to meet and govern our country.Of course our founders never envisioned career politicians either. They were to meet and carry out the business of the country, then return home to their real jobs. Too bad it didn’t happen that way, and look at the mess that was created.

  5. You can’t do it, the citizens of Washington DC like living like savages…. Otherwise they would not keep voting democrat! That is just a sad fact of life in democrat controlled cities. And it won’t be changing anytime soon, because the courts allow fraudulent elections!
