Prominent Iranian critic and famous author Salman Rushdie is in an unknown condition today after a stabbing.
An assailant rushed the stage from which Rushdie was about to speak and struck.

This happened in the United States, at an event in Chautauqua, New York. It comes two days after the DOJ announced an indictment in the case of Iran plotting to assassinate John Bolton. The attacker’s identity and motive are unknown at the moment but Rushdie famously had a bounty placed on his head decades ago by the fanatics who rule Iran, alleging heresy in his novel “The Satanic Verses.”

Fox News further reports:
“Rushdie suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck, and was transported by helicopter to an area hospital,” the press release said. “His condition is not yet known. The interviewer suffered a minor head injury. A State Trooper assigned to the event immediately took the suspect into custody. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.”
In 1989, Iran’s Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling on Muslims to kill Rushdie. Tehran has previously offered a substantial bounty for the author, notes Fox:
Iran has also offered over $3 million in reward for anyone who kills Rushdie.
Although the Iranian government stopped officially backing the fatwa against Rushdie in 1998, his death sentence under Islamic law remains in place to this day.
