Veteran journalist Katie Couric is the latest prominent figure to suggest that President Donald Trump’s policies could threaten the integrity of future elections — echoing similar warnings recently made by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Speaking on her “Breaking News” show, Couric pointed to a series of recent executive actions by the Trump administration, arguing that taken together, they raise serious concerns about election interference.
“Well, you know, obviously there are a lot of people who are concerned about all these actions that are kind of happening sporadically. But when you put them together as a whole, they seem to indicate a real effort to, excuse my French, but f— with our elections,” Couric said, before adding with a laugh, “And I can say that on Substack, not on network news.”
Couric’s remarks come as the Trump administration moves forward with an executive order directing federal agencies to compile a nationwide list of eligible voters. The order tasks the Department of Homeland Security with coordinating with the Social Security Administration and other federal databases to verify citizenship and identity, while also instructing the U.S. Postal Service to strengthen safeguards around mail-in ballots.
Couric asked Brennan Center Director Sean Morales-Doyle why such actions could “raise a red flag.”
“I’ll start with the primary reason, which is that the president doesn’t get to write the rules that govern our elections, period,” Morales-Doyle said. “It’s just not his job. The Constitution gives that authority to the states and to Congress, not to the president. And this is the second time he’s tried to do this, to issue an executive order rewriting the rules that govern our elections.”
Morales-Doyle added that the “implicit” purpose of the order could be to pressure election officials.
The concerns mirror those voiced days earlier by Pelosi, who warned that Republicans aligned with Trump could attempt to manipulate election systems ahead of the 2026 midterms.
“There are so many things that you can do to protect the election, and they are being done, whether it’s litigation or legislation or just mobilization, communication, all of that. But in addition to that, we have to be on guard as to what they may try to do to the technology. They may try to creep into the technology and create a false count,” Pelosi said in a recent interview.
Pelosi also accused Republicans of having “no commitment to the rule of law and doing things the appropriate way,” framing the issue as part of a broader fight over election integrity and Trump’s political agenda.
The Trump administration has pushed back forcefully on such claims. In a statement to Fox News Digital, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said, “Only Democrat politicians and operatives would be upset about lawful efforts to secure American elections and ensure only eligible American citizens are casting ballots. President Trump campaigned on securing our elections and the American people sent him back to the White House to get the job done.”
Still, rhetoric around the 2026 midterms is intensifying. Some media figures have gone further, suggesting the administration could attempt to “rig” the elections or even disrupt them entirely

Idiots – the constitution instructs the president to see that the laws are faithfully executed. It is well known that the voting rolls are corrupted. Dead people, non-citizens, vote by mail, etc. His executive orders attempts to remedy these corrupt practices. Non-Citizens are not allowed to vote. That is already the law. The executive order does not violate the rights of the States to control the elections, but merely attempts to go at the problem in a different more direct way.
