Three of the four perpetrators connected to the brutal murder of a 73-year-old grandma are being let off lightly, relatively speaking.
After initially facing a life sentence for the death of Linda Frickey, Briniyah Baker, 17, Lenyra Theophile, 16, and Mar'Qel Curtis, 16, agreed to a plead guilty to attempted manslaughter with a sentence of 20 years. The three defendants must serve at least 15 years of their sentence.
The crime they stood accused of is horrid. Following a botched carjacking on Bienville Street in New Orleans, the teenagers sped away with a screaming Mrs. Frickey, still attached to her stolen vehicle. After being dragged for a block her arm was severed from her body. The medical examiner's office found she died of blunt force trauma.
Fox 8 New Orleans has more:
In court, two of the teens expressed remorse and one teen's attorney offered prayers.
Out of the four defendants, only 18-year-old John Honore remains charged with second-degree manslaughter.
Frickey's family members said Honore “deserves no mercy.”
…
FOX 8 Legal Analyst Joe Raspanti believes the case against Honore is stronger.
“If it wasn't a slam dunk before, it sure appears to be now,” Raspanti said. “I'm going to bet that part of the plea deal for the other three is that they would testify against the fourth defendant in this trial.”
Honore's trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 27.
