Two new ransom notes sent to TMZ claim to reveal the location of missing Arizona woman Nancy Guthrie’s body, adding another disturbing twist to a case that has gripped national attention for more than two months.
The note, reportedly from an anonymous individual who has contacted media outlets repeatedly since Guthrie’s disappearance, claims the sender knows where her body is and who is responsible for her kidnapping.
According to TMZ, the individual is demanding half a bitcoin upfront and the remainder after an arrest is made in exchange for the information:
TMZ received the first new note Monday morning — the same day Savannah Guthrie made her return to “TODAY” — and it’s from the person who has been offering to rat out the kidnappers for nearly two months now. They say their demand for 1 bitcoin to “deliver them on a silver platter” still stands.
Shortly after we talked about the first note on “TMZ Live,” the person sent a second letter saying … “I Saw her alive with them in the state of Sonora Mexico.”
Sonora is a large Mexican state bordering Arizona and parts of New Mexico. Nancy was abducted from her home in Tucson, AZ, about 70 miles from the border on Feb. 1.
However, the sender is not suggesting Nancy is still alive … in the first note, they say, “she is dead.”
TMZ forwarded the message to the FBI, though authorities appear skeptical of its credibility. Their doubts stem in part from the fact that no funds have been deposited into the referenced bitcoin account, which had reportedly been set up back in February.
The sender seemed aware of that skepticism. In an initial message obtained by TMZ, the individual wrote, “It’s unbelievable that millions have been wasted and yet here I am willing to deliver them on a silver platter since the 11th of february for a bitcoin but I am disregarded as a scam … they are free and the case is frozen but the ego’s remain hot when it comes to me. Arrogance at it’s finest.”
Case Still Unresolved
Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since late January after disappearing from her home in Tucson.
The case has drawn widespread attention, with:
- A $1 million reward offered by the family
- An additional $100,000 reward from the FBI
- Thousands of tips submitted to investigators
Despite extensive search efforts and multiple leads, her whereabouts remain unknown.

One coin? It’s amazing that this attention getting what-ever-he/she-is won’t just let the FBI or CIA know what he/she SAYS that he/she ‘knows’!
One bit-coin isn’t worth all that much, so what’s his/her angle?
Doesn’t he ( or she ) know how suspicious that ‘request’ sounds?
It seems that since this person states that the body is in Mexico, that person could possibly be trying to cause a problem between Mexico and the U.S.
It appears that this person just wants to get their name in the papers.
And folks should be skeptical of TMZ’s credibility. (Though maybe no more than the lamestream media.)
