A family is seeking answers as authorities launch an internal review.

PERTH, Australia — Western Australia Police have agreed to review their interactions with Virginia Giuffre in the months leading up to her death after family members raised concerns about how authorities handled reports related to an alleged domestic violence dispute.

Police Commissioner Col Blanch confirmed that the agency has begun an internal review after receiving a letter from Giuffre’s family requesting that officials examine whether opportunities to intervene were missed before her death in April 2025.

The review comes more than a year after Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most prominent accusers and an advocate for survivors of sexual abuse, died by suicide at her home in Neergabby, north of Perth, at age 41. Authorities have consistently said her death was not being treated as suspicious.

Family Calls for Investigation

Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts, and sister-in-law, Amanda Roberts, said they are not disputing the official finding that she died by suicide.

Instead, they want investigators to determine whether police adequately responded when Giuffre sought help during a domestic violence dispute involving a former partner.

“We’re really asking for a thorough review of the process,” Amanda Roberts said, according to Australian media.

The family has also written to Western Australia’s Coroner’s Court requesting a broader investigation into the events preceding Giuffre’s death.

Police Commissioner Orders Review

Appearing before a parliamentary hearing, Commissioner Blanch said he did not yet know whether officers handled Giuffre’s case appropriately.

“I simply don’t know,” Blanch said when asked whether police responded adequately.

He noted that Western Australia Police respond to more than 100,000 family violence incidents annually but said Giuffre’s case would now undergo a formal review to determine whether procedures were properly followed. He also noted that the state coroner or ombudsman could pursue additional investigations if warranted.

Calls for Broader Inquiry

The family’s request has received support from domestic violence researchers, academics, and advocacy organizations, who have urged the Coroner’s Court to hold a formal inquest.

Supporters argue that any review should examine not only Giuffre’s individual case but also whether broader systemic shortcomings exist in how domestic violence complaints are handled.

Her family has said they hope any investigation could lead to improvements that help protect other victims facing similar circumstances.

Legacy as Epstein Survivor

Giuffre became one of the most recognizable survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse after publicly alleging that the disgraced financier and associate Ghislaine Maxwell trafficked her to powerful men when she was a teenager.

She also filed a civil lawsuit against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, alleging he sexually assaulted her when she was 17. He denied the allegations, and the case was resolved through an out-of-court settlement without any admission of liability.

Following her death, legal proceedings involving her estate have continued in Western Australia, including disputes over the administration of assets after she died without a valid will.

Review Now Underway

Police have not indicated when the internal review will be completed or whether its findings will be released publicly.

Meanwhile, the Coroner’s Court has acknowledged receiving the family’s request but has not announced whether it will open a formal inquest into the circumstances surrounding police interactions with Giuffre before her death.
