The lawyer who pled guilty to the fake electors plot following Donald Trump's 2020 loss to Joe Biden is sharing details of an alleged meeting that took place in the Oval Office.
CNN obtained recordings of Kenneth Chesebro, a co-defendant of Trump in the Georgia election interference case, in which he describes a meeting with Trump in December 2020. During the meeting, Chesebro reportedly briefed the then-president about a plot involving fake electors and advised him to continue fighting until Congress certified the Electoral College vote count on Jan. 6, 2021.
Chesebro made a last-minute plea deal with prosecutors in Georgia in October to avoid jail time, as noted by Mediaite:
But in CNN reporter Marshall Cohen's exclusive on the tapes, Chesebro told election crimes prosecutors in Michigan about the advice Trump was given in December of 2020. He's cooperating with probes in Michigan and Wisconsin investigating the fake electors plot.
Chesebro also consented to testify against other co-defendants in Georgia whose cases go to trial.
Chesebro's plea deal came the day after former Trump campaign attorney Sidney Powell took a plea bargain to receive probation in exchange for agreeing to testify in the case.
