Suspect in custody in alleged kidnapping and murder of 25-year-old fitness influencer…
In a tragic case that has rocked communities in Georgia and Puerto Rico, 25-year-old Minelys “Mimi” Rodriguez-Ramirez, a TikTok fitness influencer from Puerto Rico, was allegedly kidnapped and killed by 24-year-old Angel DeJesus Rivera-Sanchez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico. Authorities confirmed Rodriguez-Ramirez was last seen on Oct. 22 at a Walmart in Cornelia, Georgia.
Body Discovered Near Walmart the Day After Disappearance
The search for Rodriguez-Ramirez ended on Oct. 23 when her body was discovered close to the Walmart where she was last seen, shortly after her family reported her missing. Rivera-Sanchez was subsequently apprehended on Oct. 28 at a bus station in Atlanta, approximately a week after the body was found. Police allege that he was attempting to flee the area at the time of his arrest.

Newsweek provides further information on the unsettling details:
The last reported text Rodriguez-Ramirez sent was to her fiancé, Julio Tovor, stating, “I’m waiting for the brother to pick him up.” When she didn’t return home from her Walmart trip, her family reported her missing on October 23.
“It didn’t make sense,” Tovor told Now Habersham. “She doesn’t talk like that.”
A week later, her body was discovered on October 29 in a remote area near the Walmart by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and Habersham County Sheriff’s Office. Her car was found parked just outside the Walmart lot, raising questions about whether she moved it herself or if it was relocated after her death.
…
Rodriguez-Ramirez’s family plans to return her body to the U.S. island territory for burial, as stated on their GoFundMe page.
“We are raising funds for funeral expenses to take her to Puerto Rico and give her a Christian burial on the island where she was born,” her mother, Carmen Ramirez, explained. “Thank you in advance. God bless you.”
Local Leaders Call for Action on Immigration Enforcement
The case has sparked renewed calls from lawmakers for stricter immigration enforcement. Georgia State Senators John Albers and Steve Gooch released a joint statement addressing the loss: “The administration’s failure to address this issue impacts families here in Georgia and across the United States. Earlier this year, our community mourned the tragic death of Laken Riley, a resident of my district, and now we mourn Mimi Rodriguez-Ramirez. These were preventable tragedies, and we will not forget them.”
The murder continues to fuel discussions about the role of local and national policies in addressing crimes involving illegal immigrants.
