Quadruple Amputee Athlete Charged With Murder In Maryland Shooting

A case out of Maryland is drawing national attention — and raising troubling questions.

Authorities say a professional cornhole player is facing murder charges after a vehicle argument turned deadly in Charles County on or about March 22.

Dayton James Webber, 27, is facing first-degree murder charges after authorities say he intentionally and with premeditation killed Bradrick Wells, 27, a new father and motorsports enthusiast.

What investigators say happened

According to law enforcement, the shooting occurred during a dispute inside a vehicle.

Authorities allege:

  • Wells was shot during the argument
  • Webber later removed him from the vehicle
  • The body was discovered in Charlotte Hall, Maryland

As FOX 5 DC reports:

According to the statement of charges filed by Det. M. Bigelow of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Dayton Webber picked up two witnesses from work in a vehicle, with Bradrick Wells already in the front passenger seat. The documents state that, while driving, an argument broke out between Webber and Wells.

The witnesses, identified in the charging documents as W1 and W2, told police that Webber pulled out a firearm and shot Wells twice in the head during the argument. The statement of charges says Webber then pulled the vehicle over and asked the passengers to remove Wells from the car, which they refused.

The two witnesses exited the vehicle and flagged down a police officer, the documents state, while Webber drove off with Wells still inside the car. According to the filing, around 12:41 a.m. on March 23, a resident at 10115 Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall discovered Wells’ body on the side of the road.

The statement of charges notes that both W1 and W2 positively identified Webber as the shooter and Wells as the victim, providing the basis for the murder and assault charges currently pending in Charles County District Court.

Webber was later found about 115 miles away in Charlottesville, Virginia, at a hospital seeking medical attention.

Authorities haven’t explained how he was able to drive or fire a weapon. However, videos on social media show him shooting firearms of various calibers.

Why the case is getting attention

Webber is known in competitive cornhole circles and has built a public profile as a quadruple amputee athlete.

He lost all four limbs as an infant due to a severe infection but went on to compete at a high level — a background that has amplified interest in the case.

What comes next

Webber has been taken into custody and is expected to face prosecution in Maryland.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Bottom line

While the case has drawn attention because of the suspect’s background, it centers on a fatal shooting authorities say stemmed from an argument.

More details are expected as the legal process moves forward.
