Shooter At Joel Osteen’s Church Identified

Authorities have released the identity of the deceased shooter at 's megachurch. Genesee Moreno, a 36-year-old transgender woman, reportedly opened fire in-between Sunday services. Two off-duty officers, each with less than five years experience confronted Moreno, subduing her.

As of this article's publication, Moreno's Instagram account remans active. Investigators confirmed through her social that she had substantial interest in firearms. One post detailed how to properly maintain an . Her social media activity implied that she was a member of Osteen's Lakewood Church and had donated to the church. She also declared her support for Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Moreno's relationship to the 7-year-old who accompanied her to the church has yet to be confirmed. (RELATED: Shooter Killed After Opening Fire At Joel Osteen's Church)

Moreno had a criminal history dating back to 2005, and previously identified as Jeffery Escalante, according to a Department of Public Safety records search. Prior arrests include failure to stop and give information, assault of a public servant, assault causing bodily injury, forgery, possession of marijuana, theft, evading arrest unlawful carrying weapon.

The motive behind the shooting is unknown.
