A man who worked security for U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) was shot and killed by Dallas police SWAT officers following a standoff, according to law enforcement sources.

What Happened

Dallas police say the suspect fled into a hospital parking garage and barricaded himself inside a vehicle.

Officers deployed tear gas in an attempt to force him out.

When the man emerged from the vehicle while holding a gun, SWAT officers opened fire, killing him.

Authorities have not publicly released the man’s identity, though sources told reporters he was widely known as “Mike King.”

Connection to Crockett

Law enforcement sources told CBS News Texas the man had worked security for Crockett during campaign events and public appearances.

According to those sources, he also supervised teams of security officers at various venues and events.

Documents reviewed by reporters indicate Crockett paid him for “security services” as recently as last year.

Photos circulating online reportedly show the man standing close to Crockett during campaign events.

Criminal Allegations

Authorities say the suspect was wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Investigators say he had been operating under aliases while running a company that arranged off-duty police security jobs.

Police also allege the man:

  • Drove a replica undercover police vehicle
  • Used stolen license plates taken from vehicles outside a military recruiting office

Questions Raised

The case has raised concerns among law enforcement officials about how someone facing those allegations was able to secure security-related work connected to a sitting member of Congress and police-related jobs.
