Authorities have found Theodore “Ted” Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber, dead in his cell at a medical facility in North Carolina.
Kaczynski, 81, became infamous for mailing sophisticated bombs over a 17-year period that killed three people and injured 23.
At one point, Kaczynski’s IQ was measured at 167, and he enrolled in Harvard at 16. Later, he expressed contempt for his parents for their strict upbringing.
He was eventually apprehended by the FBI in 1996 in his primitive Montana cabin.
In 1995, The Washington Post published his controversial manifesto, “Industrial Society and Its Future,” in the hope someone would recognize his writing style.
Kaczynski’s brother, David, ultimately played a crucial role in exposing Ted’s identity, leading to his capture.

Kaczynski was previously held in a maximum security facility in Colorado but was transferred to a medical facility in North Carolina in December 2021 because of his declining health.
