Trump Says Newsom Owes Him a ‘Thank You’ for Calming L.A. Riots

President Donald Trump took a victory lap Thursday after relative calm returned to downtown Los Angeles in the wake of days-long violent riots over immigration raids. In a scathing post on Truth Social, Trump claimed credit for restoring order — and blasted California Governor Gavin Newsom for losing control of the situation.

“Governor Gaven NewScum had totally lost control of the situation. He should be saying THANK YOU for saving his ass, instead of trying to justify his mistakes and incompetence!!!” Trump wrote.

The comment came as tensions between federal and state leadership reached new heights. Newsom, along with California Attorney General Rob Bonta, filed a lawsuit this week attempting to block Trump’s emergency deployment of National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles — a legal effort that was rejected by a federal judge on Tuesday, then reversed Thursday.

“Los Angeles was safe and sound for the last two nights. Our great National Guard, with a little help from the Marines, put the L.A. Police in a position to effectively do their job,” he wrote. “Without the Military, Los Angeles would be a crime scene like we haven’t seen in years.”

The president ordered an initial deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops late Saturday night after the situation escalated during anti-ICE protests that turned into violent riots. By Monday, an additional 2,000 Guard members and 700 U.S. Marines were deployed to support law enforcement operations, particularly in downtown L.A., where ICE facilities were targeted and businesses were looted.

Riots had reached a boiling point, with Molotov cocktails thrown at ICE agents, federal buildings defaced, and vehicles set ablaze. The deployment helped local law enforcement push back rioters and regain control of key areas of the city.

Newsom and California officials claim Trump’s decision to federalize the National Guard without the state’s formal request was unlawful. The lawsuit argues that Trump exceeded his authority, and Newsom has claimed that the president’s deployment provoked unrest — not quelled it.

But images of calm streets and increased security over the past two nights appear to have shifted public sentiment in Trump’s favor, especially among local business owners and residents frustrated by the chaos.

Earlier this week, Trump compared the L.A. riots to the George Floyd riots in 2020, where governors and mayors delayed calling in the National Guard, leading to extended violence in cities like Minneapolis.

“You have to remember, I’ve been here before,” Trump said. “In Minneapolis, that city was burning down for seven days.”

As the situation in Los Angeles continues to stabilize, Trump appears eager to leverage the moment as further proof of his leadership style: assertive, unapologetic, and above all, willing to bypass bureaucracy to “get the job done.”

Trump provoked unrest? Unlawful use of the national guard and US Marines? How does one “provoke” unrest that’s already happening? Please, Newsom…just shut up while your state is finally calming down. You’re not helping.

Keep up the good work President Trump! They need to know that the majority of Americans are so tired of their childish antics. Every time they don’t get their way they riot, loot, vandalize and commit acts of violence like the fascists they are. Instead of treating them with kid gloves, kick their teeth in a few times and they’ll learn the difference between constitutionally protected, peaceful protest and rioting. If not, they’ll feel it.

Newsome, you owe President Trump a deep debt of gratitude.
Your ineffective leadership allowed the riots to break out.
It was President Trump’s actions that brought the situation under control.
Thanks to our MAKER that you will be out of office in 2026.
