Watch Live: Hunt For Convicted Murderer Ends With Arrest

-

The hunt for an illegal immigrant who crab-walked out of a prison after being sentenced to life for murdering his girlfriend has ended peacefully.

, 34, escaped two weeks ago, sparking a manhunt involving local, state and federal agencies. Authorities announced early Tuesday that he stole a rifle from the garage of a Chester County resident. Police considered Cavalcante “armed and extremely dangerous.”

A press conference announcing details of the capture of Cavalcante is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

As USA Today reports:

The Pennsylvania State Police wrote on social media that Cavalcante was captured. Further details will be released at a 9:30 a.m. news conference, the agency added.

Cavalcante, 34, escaped from Chester County Prison on Aug. 31 while he was awaiting transfer to a state facility to serve a life sentence for fatally stabbing an ex-girlfriend in 2021. Prosecutors say he killed her to stop her from telling police he was wanted in a 2017 slaying in his native Brazil.

He was spotted several times on security cameras or by eyewitnesses but repeatedly eluded law enforcement. Late Monday night, he walked into the open garage of a home in a rural area 40 miles northwest of Philadelphia, stole a rifle and fled as the homeowner shot at him several times with a pistol, police said.

Authorities closed roads and released warnings urging nearby residents to stay inside and lock their doors Tuesday. One local school district canceled classes twice this week.

Cavalcante had already snuck past one law enforcement checkpoint and stole a van, which he used to attempt to enlist the help of two former work colleagues.

Authorities played a recording of his mother in Portuguese to persuade him to surrender.

  1. 1st, Why / How as an illegal alien, was he working? Aren’t there laws preventing that as well? Safety from the already violent & soon to be (with much thanks to democrats soft on crime, their revolving door or otherwise ‘rewarding’ policies) is yet another slap against ‘we’ who give the politicians GREAT salaries & super great lifetime benefits. We know democrats never care about who is actually coming across, of the safety of American citizens or even of those taking high risk for the gains amounting to the hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, housing, medical attention, cell phones & the endless other free stuff ‘we’ generously manage to give to EACH of those whose first act in America is to violate the law.

2nd, About that rifle he stole from a ‘garage’, either it was made up (we’ll find out) OR it was a non functioning piece of garbage most likely held for parts or memories. NO gun owner would keep a working firearm in a garage unless the garage was well sealed and well climate controlled.
