WASHINGTON — New reporting suggests Kash Patel’s position as FBI director may be in jeopardy, with White House sources telling Politico that he could be removed soon amid a series of damaging headlines, raising new questions about his leadership and future in the role.

Officials have reportedly grown increasingly frustrated with Patel amid a string of controversies. One said his removal may be “only a matter of time,” as multiple sources indicate senior administration officials are actively discussing potential replacements.

Concerns Over Conduct and Leadership

The reported assessment follows broader allegations about Patel’s behavior and management of the FBI.

A recent investigation cited concerns from current and former officials, including:

  • Alleged erratic behavior and unexplained absences
  • Reports of excessive drinking
  • Internal disruption within the bureau

Patel has strongly denied the allegations and filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic, which first reported many of the claims.

The report cited more than two dozen sources describing alleged erratic behavior, including claims of excessive drinking while on duty.

Following the lawsuit, reporter Sarah Fitzpatrick said she was “inundated” with additional sources who supported the original reporting, including individuals at senior levels of government.

A separate New York Times report said the FBI under Patel opened a preliminary inquiry into reporter Elizabeth Williamson after she published a story alleging Patel used FBI resources — including a SWAT team security detail — to escort his girlfriend.

Justice Department officials reportedly blocked the inquiry, determining there was no legal basis to proceed and viewing it as potentially retaliatory.

An FBI spokesperson denied that Williamson herself was investigated, stating agents were instead examining a death threat received by Patel’s girlfriend that referenced the article.

Patel has dismissed the allegations as “baseless,” arguing the reporting created a direct threat.

Political Pressure Builds

The controversy has also drawn attention on Capitol Hill.

House Democrats have launched a formal inquiry into Patel’s conduct, including calls for an alcohol-use assessment and documentation related to his security clearance.

Critics have also raised concerns about broader changes at the FBI under Patel’s leadership, including staffing upheaval and management decisions some say have affected institutional stability.

White House Signals Mixed Messaging

Despite reported internal frustration, the White House has publicly defended Patel, describing him as a key figure in the administration.

However, behind-the-scenes concerns appear to be growing.

What Comes Next

No official decision has been announced regarding Patel’s future.

But the combination of internal criticism, congressional scrutiny, and ongoing media coverage has increased pressure on the FBI director — leaving open the possibility of further action in the coming days and weeks.

Is Patel actually guilty of these accusations, or is this just another anti-Trump attack designed to ‘go after’ Trump and to try to make Trump seem weak and erratic while getting Patel out of the way of their attempts to control Patel’s bureau?
Time will tell. But the president had better be careful to be sure of the accuracy of these accusations before removing Patel!
If PROVEN to be true, get rid of Patel FAST!
If not true, get rid of those who are after Patel ( ‘get rid of’ means fire him in Patel’s case, if he’s guilty. In the case of those who are after him … if false, take them to court and make them pay ‘through the nose’! )!
