A 64-year-old Delaware woman was found dead late Sunday night after police responded to a possible domestic dispute at her home, authorities said.
Linda Stevenson was pronounced dead at the scene after New Castle County police were dispatched to her residence around 11:15 p.m. Initial reports indicate officers were responding to a call described as a domestic dispute, though investigators have not announced any criminal charges or identified a suspect.
Stevenson was married to Bill Stevenson, the first husband of former First Lady Jill Biden.
Police Response and Initial Findings
According to New Castle County police, officers arrived at the home and found Linda Stevenson unresponsive in the living room. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police dispatch audio referenced a possible cardiac arrest, though authorities have emphasized that the cause of death has not yet been determined.
At this stage, officials have not clarified what prompted the original 911 call or whether anyone else was present in the home at the time.
Autopsy Pending
Stevenson’s body has been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause and manner of death.
Investigators said further information will be released once the autopsy is complete. No arrests have been announced, and police have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Connection to the First Lady
Bill Stevenson, Linda Stevenson’s husband, was previously married to Jill Biden, then known as Jill Jacobs. The couple married in 1970 and divorced in 1975.
Jill Biden later married Joe Biden in 1977, decades before he became president. The Stevensons’ marriage predates Jill Biden’s role as first lady by more than 40 years.
Authorities have not suggested that Jill Biden or President Joe Biden have any connection to the incident beyond the historical marriage.
Ongoing Investigation
Law enforcement officials said they are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding Linda Stevenson’s death, including the events leading up to the 911 call.
At this point, police have released few details, citing the need to preserve the integrity of the investigation. An official cause of death is expected following the completion of the autopsy.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation as the inquiry continues.
