The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Iran, marking the most significant congressional challenge yet to President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) invokes the 1973 War Powers Resolution and would require the administration to obtain explicit authorization from Congress before continuing hostilities against Iran, except in cases involving an imminent threat to the United States. The vote followed months of growing bipartisan concern over a conflict that began in.

MONDAY PDB – Going woke has a price – Confidence in US military lowest in over two decades. Americans are now less likely to express “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the U.S. military, with a noticeable decline that has persisted for the past five years.

The latest numbers are from a June 1-22 Gallup poll that also captured record lows in public confidence in several public institutions.

BUT – ‘The Few, the Proud’ aren’t so few: Marines recruiting surges while other services struggle. Not long ago, Marine Col. Jennifer Nash, a combat engineer with war deployments under her belt, made a vow to fellow officers as they headed to a dinner in Atlanta: She would get two new recruiting contacts by the end of the evening.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DAILY BRIEFING – the PDB:

PENTAGON WOKE WATCH

SIMPLE SOLUTION – SECDEF END TAXPAYER-FUNDED ABORTION TRAVEL – Army, Navy will be latest services without chiefs as senator maintains block on confirmations. The two are set to join the Marine Corps in being without a full-time top officer as the Senate leaves for a five-week break without finding a way to end Republican Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s hold on general and admiral promotions.

NATIONAL SECURITY

WHAT?! – Trump calls for conditioning Ukraine aid on congressional Biden probes. The demand echoed Trump’s withholding Ukraine aid to seek an investigation into Biden, leading to his first impeachment.

Lawmakers request UFO select committee after whistleblower testimony. A bipartisan group of lawmakers sent a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Friday requesting a committee to investigate government programs involving unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAPs, following a whistleblower’s testimony Wednesday at a House Oversight Committee hearing.

Quantum tech will transform national security. It’s testing US alliances now. A global race to harness the power of atoms for navigation, computing and encryption is pitting concerns over protectionism against the spirit of cooperation.

America’s military trails Russia and China in race for the melting Arctic. U.S. is competing with a partnership between the two countries but has fewer icebreakers and ports, and less experience.

CHINA THREAT

HE IS SPOT ON – Air Force maverick who warned of war with China sticks to his guns. Gen. Michael A. Minihan, lauded by hawks in Congress, has disturbed some in the Pentagon with his fiery prognostications of a looming conflict. HAND-WRINGING WIMPS.

THEY NEED IT NOW – BUT SO DO WE – US to announce $345 million military aid package for Taiwan. It would be the Biden administration’s first major package drawing on America’s own stockpiles under a new policy intended to speed up military aid to help Taiwan counter China.

China says US military aid to Taiwan will not deter its will to unify the island. China accused the U.S. of turning Taiwan into an “ammunition depot” after the White House announced a $345 million military aid package for Taipei, and the self-ruled island said Sunday it tracked six Chinese navy ships in waters off its shores.

US hunts Chinese malware that could disrupt American military operations. American intelligence officials believe the malware could give China the power to disrupt or slow American deployments or resupply operations, including during a Chinese move against Taiwan.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Medvedev says Russia could use nuclear weapon if Ukraine’s fightback succeeds. The threat was made by senior Russian official Dmitry Medvedev said Sunday – the latest in a series of nuclear threats made by the key ally of Vladimir Putin.

Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 523. The Russian defense ministry said it brought down three Ukrainian drones over the capital, Moscow, damaging a high-rise building reported to house government offices. Nobody was hurt and the attack briefly forced the closure of the city’s four airports.

Officials say Saudi Arabia will host a Ukrainian-organized peace summit over Russia’s war in August. It hopes to find a way to start negotiations over Russia’s war on the country.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

See the weapons on display during North Korea’s military parade. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un shared center stage with senior delegates from Russia and China as he rolled out his most powerful nuclear-capable missiles in a military parade.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Air Force engineer under investigation for “critical compromise” of communications. A raid found thousands of dollars in stolen equipment and multiple radio passwords.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

US pledges to help Australia manufacture guided missiles by 2025. The U.S. will expand its military industrial base by helping Australia manufacture guided missiles and rockets for both countries within two years, as they ramped up defense cooperation to counter China’s growing influence in the Pacific.

US Marines practice their air-assault and extraction skills at Australian airfield. Dozens of U.S. Marines piled in and out of aircraft on this remote, privately owned airfield Friday as part of ongoing training to hone their ability to fight in the Indo-Pacific.

German Air Force rushes to Iceland in ‘Rapid Viking’ drill. It launched its “lean and mean” operation on Friday to demonstrate its ability to quickly deploy to Iceland as part of a two-week exercise.

Japan forecasts large boost to defense spending over next five years. Japan will more than double its defense spending over the next five years compared to the previous five amid a host of security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

GOD BLESS AND RIP BROTHERS – 4 crew members on Australian army helicopter that crashed off coast didn’t survive. The helicopter that crashed Friday during a multinational exercise hit the water with a “catastrophic impact” and there is no chance its four crew members survived.

Protesters attack French embassy in Niger as West African governments threaten coup leaders. Supporters of the coup waved Russian flags in the capital while regional leaders warned of potential military action to restore democratic rule.

Brazil rejects US extradition request for alleged Russian spy. Brazilian justice officials said Thursday they can’t approve a U.S. request to extradite an alleged Russian spy because they have already been processing Moscow’s own request for the man.

US MILITARY

We need a limited military draft. It’s time to change how our country fills the ranks of our military.

The Navy’s newest destroyer is named for a Marine who saved his company from annihilation. Everything seemed to be going wrong for Company H on Dec. 18, 1965.

GOD BLESS AND RIP BROTHER – US Army general dies in plane crash near Aberdeen Proving Ground. A longtime U.S. Army acquisition officer and aviator has died in Maryland.

The next frontier for warfighters might be implants in their brains. Is the Pentagon ready for the consequences? It was 2003, and Geoffrey Ling, a young Army doctor, was looking down at a new patient. A young boy, who’d arrived at his medical unit in Afghanistan missing a hand.

People want to be patriotic when plitical psychodics not ruling. Giving up much of your freedom should be met with honor and respect not hate and sabitoche

She (Marine Col. Jennifer Nash) would get two new recruiting contacts by the end of the evening?

I guess compared to the enlistment numbers of the other branches, that is surging.

I find myself wondering what military is being talked about. I served in the Navy many years ago and it was definitely not like the social clubs we now have. The Marines and Army were men! They carried rifles, not the little pea shooters they now carry. When given an order back in my day, we carried out the order instead of arguing with a superior. Actually, it was more like living in a Socialist environment. We were told what to do, not asked. Actually, I doubt if the Marines could do the jobs they once did in places like the Solomans or the Marianas. The Army serving in the Pacific in those days was sadly lacking and Marines did their jobs for them, but they were no doubt better than what we have now. Our Navy is practically nonexistent. A large number of reasonably new ships have been decommissioned and sold for scrap. Two of our top-line carriers are being decommissioned. The Air Force is retiring the A-10, our only ground support aircraft. Do we have something better to replace it? HELL NO! If attacked by China or some other country, can we defend ourselves? HELL NO AGAIN! Also, in my opinion, there’s no place for a woman in a Navy ship going into combat, or in a rifle platoon where one could get people killed trying to protect them. Keep the girls in the States and give the guys something to come home to. We once had WACS AND WAVES to release men for other duties. That should be done again. Other countries are building up their military forces while we’re absolutely destroying ours. For that, all I can say is THANK YOU MR. BIDEN, THANKS FOR NOTHING! Another thing people don’t seem to realize is if we’re attacked again it won’t be like 1941. We won’t have time to mobilize. It will be nuclear. Slam Bam Thank You Mam it’s over. Having had an up-close personal look at war I sincerely hope I’m wrong about everything. We’ll just have to wait and see.
