-

Fulton County (Atlanta) District Attorney told a judge today that charging decisions are imminent following the submission of the special grand jury's report on whether and whom to charge in former President Trump's attempt to upend 's results.

Willis' remarks came as she urged Judge Robert McBurney to keep the final grand jury report sealed for the time being. At one point, Willis said, “For future defendants to be treated fairly, it's not appropriate at this time to have this report released.”

“In this case, the state understands the 's inquiry and the world's interest. But we have to be mindful of protecting future defendant's rights,” Willis added.

Various media outlets had asked Judge McBurney to make the report public, as did the grand jury. A lawyer representing the media called for the judge to make the report available, in its entirety, immediately.

CNBC further reports:

Another prosecutor, Donald Wakeford, told McBurney that the report could be made public after any potential indictments are issued in the case.

The hearing ended without McBurney ruling on the question.

Trump is being eyed for his efforts to reverse his loss to in Georgia, which was a key swing state in the 2020 election. That effort involved pressuring Georgia's secretary of state to find Trump enough votes for him to overcome his margin of loss to Biden.

The grand jury did not have the power to issue indictments in the case. That decision is left to Willis.

Speaking to NBC News, Trump's lawyers said they would not be present at today's hearing, expressing optimism that the grand jury concluded that Trump acted lawfully.

Meanwhile, McBurney wants more time to consider the arguments before potentially releasing the report.
