The car, which was driven by Thomas Matthew Crooks, was parked near the Trump rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday, the people said.
Police received multiple reports of suspicious packages around near where the shooter was, authorities said, prompting them to dispatch bomb technicians. Investigators were still working to make sure the scene was clear well into the night. They also searched Crooks’s home and spoke with his family.
The detailed search reportedly included ATF agents and a bomb squad.
Firearm Traced Back to Suspect’s Father
The firearm used by Crooks was purchased by his father. At the time of his death, Crooks wore a shirt from Demolition Ranch, a popular gun YouTube channel.
FBI Continues Search for Motive
The FBI has yet to determine a clear motive behind Crooks’ actions.
