Hard Blow to Putin – No More Viagra for Russia

Hitting Russia where it hurts…

ANALYSIS – We have now learned that American pharmaceutical company ‘Viatris,’ a new spinoff company under Pfizer, which produces Viagra, is doing its part to battle the Russian bear.

It is making it much harder for Russians to get the original Viagra brand-name erection-enhancing medication.

The company could afford this after record sales of its then-experimental COVID-19 vaccine.

Viatris informed the Kremlin early last year, when Russia invaded Ukraine, that it would stop selling the male impotence drug in Russia, forcing the wives, mistresses and girlfriends of hundreds of Russian oligarchs into taking temporary vacations.

However, Moscow did not allow Russia to be belittled.

This powerful sanction prompted Russia’s Industry and Trade Ministry to announce that Russian firms would soon begin producing generic sildenafil pills, the active ingredient in Viagra, which had not been produced in Russia.

According to the Ministry: Russian companies have the “technological possibility” to manufacture it, and 36 companies have already been issued registration certificates to begin production.

The Moscow Times reported that:

Russian pharmaceuticals increased production of drugs containing Sildenafil by 11% in January-September 2022, according to Interfax.

Sales of the medication that treats sexual dysfunction went up by 15% over the same period, the news agency added.

Other studies cited by the Kommersant business daily say Russians bought 2.7 million erectile dysfunction pills in mid-2022, an 88% jump from the same time in 2021.

While this sanction was meant to have dealt a hard blow to Vladimir Putin and his band of war-mongering oligarchs, the impact may have been softened by Russia’s ability to quickly produce its own generic sildenafil pills.

This shows that while Russia may not be able to produce enough ammunition for its guns and tanks fighting in Ukraine, it can quickly surge the production of erection-enhancing drugs to keep Russia strong.

Meanwhile, Russia’s war machine goose steps on.
