ICYMI: Congressman Criminally Charged For Juvenile Stunt

ANALYSIS – In case you missed it among all the other major breaking news, far-left New York Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman was criminally charged Wednesday for deliberately raising a false fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill back in September.

This, as the House voted on GOP legislation to avoid a partial government shutdown.

Most observers believe he did it to delay the vote.

A conservative watchdog group has filed a separate complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics, saying Bowman had failed to conduct himself “in a manner that reflects creditably on the House.”

He initially, and shamelessly, claimed that he thought the clearly marked red fire alarm he pulled was some sort of door opener. However, harsh reality, photographic and video evidence quickly came crashing down on the 47-year-old socialist ‘Squad’ member, and he entered into an agreement with the D.C. attorney general.

Two of his fellow socialist Squad members, Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts have been creating their own controversy by defending Hamas and blaming Israel for the barbarous terror attacks of October 7. Among other evidence in Bowman’s case, video shows the Democrat lawmaker passed at least seven Capitol Police officers without informing them that he had pulled the alarm, even as the House office building was clearly being evacuated for an hour and a half.

The misdemeanor charge, which he pleaded guilty to, carries a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a fine of up to $1,000 and Bowman is required to pay the full fine, but will not serve jail time. 

His plea deal also allows him to have his charges withdrawn after three months if he issues a formal apology to the Capitol Police. (RELATED: Palestinian Sympathizers Overrun US Capitol Building)

The New York Post reported:

In an affidavit filed in Washington, DC, Superior Court on Wednesday, a Capitol Police investigator said Bowman testified that the emergency exit “was a usual door he uses” during votes and “he did not tell anyone” about the infraction until the “Sergeant at Arms contacted him.”

Bowman also denied that he “intended to cause a fire alarm,” “intended to cause a security concern,” or “intended to disrupt or obstruct a Congressional proceeding.”

He further said the sign inside the Cannon House Office Building read: “emergency exit only push to open.”

The investigator noted that the sign actually states: “Emergency Exit Only Push Until Alarm Sounds (3 Seconds) Door Will Unlock in 30 Seconds.”

Photos of the doors with Bowman pulling the alarm clearly show the obvious red sign saying ‘Emergency Exit Only’ ahead of the doors and the red sign quoted above on both doors.

Photos also show the standard red fire alarm that Bowman, a former school principal, pulled, which is identical to fire alarms everywhere in the country and that all grade school kids are taught never to pull except in case of – fire.

Michael Gerald, a Baptist church pastor and former New Jersey state trooper, said about Bowman: “He heard, as we all did going to school, ‘Don’t pull the fire alarm,’” noting that like all of us growing up, Bowman must have “presided over a countless number of fire drills” as a former middle school principal.

Gerald previously told The Post that the congressman’s actions were “the height of idiocy.”

On Thursday morning, Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) posted on X that she’s introducing a resolution to censure Bowman and strip him of his committee assignments for the remainder of the 118^th Congress.

Capitol Police have concluded their investigation into Rep. Bowman and found his action of pulling the fire alarm in Cannon to be illegal.

I am introducing a resolution to Censure Rep. Bowman and remove him from all Committee assignments for the remainder of the 118th Congress.

The Post also noted that earlier after the incident, Bowman’s office issued talking points “that said Republicans should be more worried about ‘Nazis’ in their midst than drawing attention to the fire alarm incident.”

In the end, based on the evidence, the Capitol Police concluded that there was “probable cause to believe that the defendant willfully or knowingly gave a false fire alarm in the District of Columbia.”

And why would Bowman do that during a critical House vote, except to delay or obstruct the vote?

Continuing his shameless lying and spinning after he was charged, Bowman said: “I’m thankful from the District of Columbia Attorney General’s office on this issue and grateful that the United States Capitol Police General Counsel’s agreed I did not obstruct or intend to obstruct any House vote or proceedings.”

All I can say is ‘liar, liar, pants on fire!’
