It’s Official – Disinformation Governance Board Goes Underground

-

After a botched rollout campaign, the (DHS) scrapped its .

But the 's commitment to fighting “disinformation” with an Orwellian “truth board” or something like it is very much alive.

A Homeland Security Advisory Council report released without fanfare last week confirms DHS remains committed to working with Big Tech to censor individuals who don't subscribe to the pro-Biden 's narrative, even when it has been painstakingly disproven.

Such was the case after The Times confirmed the Hunter Biden laptop story was not Russian disinformation. Other examples like the stubbornly dismissing the increasingly plausible accidental COVID-19 lab-leak theory come to mind.

As Newsbusters reports:

“When CISA [DHS's Cybersecurity and Information Security Agency] receives information from state and local election officials on disinformation campaigns utilizing social media, CISA passes that information to the social media companies for whatever action those companies see fit to take,” states the report.

Former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick led a review of the Biden administration's DHS-housed Disinformation Governance Board (DGB) after its work paused in May. The review led to the board's official termination, announced Wednesday by DHS. Yet the report said that DHS must still work to counter so-called disinformation “consistent with the law and best practices.”

Chertoff and Gorelick's appointment came one day after Nina Jankowicz's resignation as the board's executive director. Jankowicz repeatedly used her significant social media presence to spread disproven narratives about the Steele dossier and Hunter Biden's laptop.

Newsbusters adds:

Finally, the report calls for more DHS control over election-related “disinformation” in the lead-up to the 2022 midterms. It cites a supposed “far-ranging influence campaign” by Russia during the 2016 presidential election, cites “increased threats” to election workers and ties “Iranian adversaries” to the fringe Proud Boys.

“Disinformation undermines confidence in the security of U.S. elections,” the report notes. “False statements on this topic have had significant operational impacts on U.S. elections.”

Back in January, President Biden appeared to cast doubt on the integrity of our election process if didn't act to override voting reform bills in red states.
