Muslim Nations Signal Support For Trump’s Gaza Plan

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump set a tight deadline, warning that Hamas had only three to four days to respond. There would be, he cautioned, “not much” room for negotiation.

A growing group of Muslim-majority governments have expressed support for President Trump’s newly unveiled Gaza peace framework, signaling a rare diplomatic opening in favor of the U.S. proposal.

The developments come less than 24 hours after Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said they had agreed on a plan to end the war in Gaza and were awaiting Hamas’ response.

In a summit coinciding with the U.N. General Assembly, Arab and Muslim leaders issued a joint statement affirming their willingness to cooperate with the principles of Trump’s proposal. The statement pledged commitments to postwar reconstruction, funding, and security roles. Participants included Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, and Indonesia.

In their message, the leaders stressed unity with the U.S. president. “We reaffirm our commitment to cooperate with President Trump and emphasize the importance of his leadership in order to end the war and open horizons for a just and lasting peace,” they said.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in particular, praised Trump’s efforts, calling them “an important foundation” for building regional peace.

According to Axios, the U.S. proposals presented at the meeting were not entirely new but reflected variations on ideas debated over the past six months, many drawn from earlier concepts advanced by Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The framework centered on several principles: the release of all remaining hostages, a permanent ceasefire, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. It also envisioned a postwar governing authority for Gaza that would exclude Hamas but incorporate Palestinians, supported by Arab and Muslim troops. The plan called for those nations to fund Gaza’s reconstruction and new administration, with some role for the Palestinian Authority.

Two sources told Axios that Arab representatives responded with conditions, including guarantees that Israel would not annex or occupy any part of Gaza or the West Bank, would refrain from settlement construction in Gaza, and would maintain the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. They also called for an immediate increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The sources added Trump assured regional leaders that his plan would not allow Israel to annex territory in the West Bank.

NBC News has additional details:

A spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry said that mediators Qatar and Egypt had delivered Trump’s plan to Hamas on Monday in Doha and that a discussion would be taking place later Tuesday.

As the world awaited Hamas’ response, global powers lined up behind the U.S.-backed plan to end the Israeli assault and free hostages still held in the devastated Palestinian enclave.

In a joint statement, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia and Pakistan welcomed the 20-point plan, calling Trump’s efforts “sincere.”

It also received support from Europe, where a number of countries had recently defied Washington to formally recognize Palestinian statehood. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron urged Hamas to agree to the plan, while Germany and the European Union itself offered public backing.

Hamas has not formally endorsed the plan but has said it will review it with other Palestinian factions.
