ANALYSIS – While some Democrats and their partisan allies in the media attempt to spin the current border crisis as more of the same, Mexican authorities and the Democrat governor of Arizona strongly disagree.
A border surge near El Paso has witnessed over 26,000 apprehensions and over 7,000 “gotaways” within just 72 hours, according to official sources.
What’s worse is that the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) union is accusing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of tipping off migrants to upcoming CPB sweeps.
Large groups of migrants have already amassed in the city of Tijuana, near the U.S. border in California, waiting for the end of the three-year-long COVID-19 policy established under Donald Trump that blocked people who crossed illegally from seeking asylum.
And even local Mexican authorities are concerned about their size.
“Nothing like this has been seen before,” said Enrique Lucero, Tijuana’s director of migrant affairs.
As I have reported, between 700,000 and one million illegal migrants are massing all along the U.S.-Mexico border waiting for Title 42 to expire at midnight on Friday, May 11.
In March, nearly half of all migrant encounters ended in a Title 42 expulsion.
Joe Biden called for an end to the policy, but despite the long lead time, has failed to adequately prepare for the looming immigrant wave.
And it’s not just Republicans saying this.
Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs of Arizona, a Democrat, is criticizing the embarrassing level of preparedness by Team Biden.
“We have not received an adequate response” about plan[s] for the related and expected surge of migrants at the southern U.S. border,” Hobbs said Monday.
She added that she’s “afraid that the federal government is unprepared” and that the situation is “incredibly frustrating.”
Hobbs also said, “I’m afraid these challenges will only get worse.”
Meanwhile, the National Border Patrol Council (Border Patrol Union) bashed the DHS Monday night for announcing a “targeted enforcement operation” in Texas to remove or detain illegal immigrants, essentially tipping off migrants hours before the operation is supposed to take place.
Agents from CBP and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carried out the enforcement raid on Tuesday in El Paso, where upwards of 2,200 migrants are camped out or living on the streets just blocks from the border with Juárez, Mexico.
The union, which represents approximately 18,000 Border Patrol agents and support personnel, added that the entire operation was a “sad joke” and “another pandering PR stunt.”
“Serious law enforcement leaders don’t behave this way,” the union added.
And it doesn’t seem to matter much since Team Biden appears to just release the arrested illegal migrants into the United States anyway.
This unprecedented migrant rush is likely going to be huge. Let’s see how much of a disaster it becomes.
