President Donald J. Trump has reportedly given Ukraine the go-ahead to conduct long-range drone and missile attacks against targets inside Russia, marking a dramatic escalation in U.S. policy toward the Russian-Ukraine war.
Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, said Sunday on Fox News that the president has authorized Ukraine to conduct “long-range strikes” with U.S. weapons.

When asked to clarify whether Trump’s position was that Ukraine could launch long-range strikes against Russia, Kellogg replied in the affirmative:
“I think reading what he has said, and reading what Vice President Vance has said as well as Secretary Rubio, the answer is yes. Use the ability to hit deep. There are no such things as sanctuaries.”
Until now, Ukraine’s strikes have relied mostly on drones and short-range Western arms. But Trump’s green light could change that — potentially unleashing Tomahawk cruise missiles with ranges up to ~1,500 miles, far exceeding Ukraine’s prior permitted strike depth. However, the White House has not yet made a final decision on whether Tomahawks will be included.
Tomahawk missiles launched from Ukraine or the Black Sea could reach major Russian cities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar, and Samara, among others. The exact reach would depend on the point of launch.
Cities reachable within the commonly-cited range:
- Moscow — ~1,137 km (706 mi)
- Saint Petersburg — ~1,496 km (930 mi)
- Kazan — ~1,641 km (1,020 mi)
- Samara — ~1,580 km (982 mi)
- Yekaterinburg — ~2,334 km (1,450 mi)
- Severodvinsk / Murmansk — in some launch-location / high-range permutations they may also be reachable or marginally reachable.
The easternmost large cities (e.g., Novosibirsk, Vladivostok) remain far beyond these ranges.
Vice President JD Vance confirmed that the U.S. is weighing the delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, with President Trump retaining final authority over their use.

Russian officials acknowledge the potential shift, but described it as unlikely to immediately change the battlefield balance.
Under the Biden administration, Ukraine was allowed limited use of U.S. ATACMS missiles (~190 mile range) to hit targets inside Russia. The new move under Trump, if carried out, represents a far deeper expansion of strike authority.

IF Russia and buy both Chinese and North Korean weapons to make deeper strikes into Ukraine it only makes since that Ukraine should be able to acquire longer range weapons to strike into the attackers sensitive areas and cities. It would behove Putin to stop this idiotic war of attrition and return to the original National borders prior to his attacks on the Crimea. His ego will not let him do it though, and he is dug deep and lives in bunkers isolated from not only Ukraine but his own military and people.
