Multiple outlets are reporting that the U.S. is deploying about 200 troops to Israel to support and monitor a newly agreed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
The mission is not to engage in combat, but rather to help oversee implementation of the ceasefire via a civil-military coordination center in Israel.
Alongside the deployment, President Trump has directed CENTCOM to set up a brand-new command and control hub inside Israel.
The Jerusalem Post reports:
The new base will coordinate foreign forces coming to Gaza, according to the report.
A senior general and hundreds of American soldiers will also be responsible for monitoring the implementation of Trump’s 20-point plan which will see the war come to a complete end.
The scope of US’s mandate in Gaza has yet to be shared with Israel, according to the report. The Jerusalem Post reported earlier on Thursday that a joint Israeli-US-Qatari-Egyptian task force will be established to locate the remains of deceased hostages whose location is unknown.
A source familiar with the details told The Post that the task force will provide heavy equipment for tasks such as digging or demolishing buildings to reach the bodies of the deceased.
The task force set an urgent objective: to bring home as many of the abducted as possible — both the living hostages and the remains of the dead — within 72 hours.
Their mission will also extend to facilitating humanitarian aid, coordinating logistics, security support, and monitoring the transition to civilian governance in Gaza.

Temporary CP right NOT FT post
Given that up to 14 American citizens were murdered on Octoberv 7 2023 and about 6 were taken captive, I think it is shameful that the US did not take an active roll in attacking Hamas and fighting for the return of the hostages but let Israel do all the heavy lifting.
