Six House Republicans broke with GOP leadership on Wednesday, joining Democrats to advance legislation that would provide billions of dollars in additional support to Ukraine despite ongoing opposition from President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The House voted 218-204 in favor of a discharge petition that forces consideration of the Ukraine Support Act, a measure that had remained stalled for more than a year after Republican leaders declined to bring it to the floor.

The vote marks one of the most significant bipartisan challenges to Republican leadership on foreign.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump issued his starkest warning yet to Iran on Tuesday, declaring that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Tehran fails to meet a U.S. deadline tied to escalating conflict in the region.

The warning, posted on Truth Social, came hours before an 8 p.m. Eastern deadline set by the administration for Iran to comply with U.S. demands, including reopening the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.

Ultimatum tied to military escalation

Trump’s message suggested the potential for large-scale military action targeting key Iranian infrastructure.

“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” Trump wrote, adding that while he did not want that outcome, “it probably will.”

The president has previously warned of strikes on power plants, bridges, and other infrastructure, signaling a dramatic escalation in the ongoing conflict.

The ultimatum is centered on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil chokepoint through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply flows.

Strikes already underway

The warning came as reports confirmed U.S. strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, a key oil export hub responsible for a significant share of the country’s crude shipments.

According to officials, the strikes targeted military facilities, including air defenses and storage infrastructure, marking a significant escalation in the conflict.

Response and global concerns

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards responded with threats of retaliation, warning they could target U.S. and allied infrastructure and disrupt oil and gas supplies across the region.

Iranian officials also indicated they would not initiate attacks on civilian targets but would respond forcefully if U.S. strikes crossed key thresholds.

The exchange has heightened fears of a broader regional war and potential disruption to global energy markets.

Rising tensions amid ongoing war

The latest warning marks a continuation of increasingly aggressive rhetoric from Trump as the conflict with Iran enters a new phase.

Since launching military operations earlier this year, Trump has repeatedly signaled willingness to expand the scope of attacks and has floated the possibility of regime change in Tehran.

Analysts and critics have raised concerns about the targeting of civilian infrastructure and the broader humanitarian implications of such threats.

What comes next

With the deadline approaching, it remains unclear whether Iran will comply with U.S. demands or whether Washington will follow through on its warnings of expanded military action.

The situation represents one of the most volatile moments in the conflict to date, with potential consequences for regional stability, global energy markets and broader international security.

Obviously President Trump is using hyperbole. He is not going after the Iranians (Persians). He is going after the blood thirsty, dictatorial regime that has terrorized the entire west and the people of Iran for 47 years. We all know the nuclear issue and what a stupid deal the obama administration made with the Islamic regime —– it guaranteed that they would eventually have a nuclear weapon with which they would be capable of totally destroying Israel as well as the USA ——- the regime admitted this many times. If we want to survive, that regime must be completely neutered at all cost. None of it can be left in power because it would only come back down the road and maybe next time we will not have the intel to know of the growing danger until it is too late. Too many people in our country including MTG (who I use to like) have not got the common sense to the their shoelaces. They would not wake up to the danger until the first nuke takes out NYC or LA for those who think that is melodramatic you had better think again —– understand Islam for what it is! It is not a religion of peace! This regime is following the dictates of their holy book the Koran!
