US Divided Along Party Lines Over Trump Indictments – Few Trust Biden’s DOJ

-

ANALYSIS – About half of Americans believe 's alleged attempt to interfere in Georgia's 2020 vote count was illegal, according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research – conducted before Monday's charges in the Georgia case were brought.

The other half doesn't believe the ex-president did anything illegal. Go figure. (RELATED: House Committee Investigating Trump Prosecutor)

And the results are similar for the charges against Trump for inciting the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Meanwhile, few Americans trust the (DOJ) leadership.

The poll finds 85% of Democrats feel his actions were illegal, compared with only 41% of independents and 16% of Republicans. Overall, 51% of adults agree it was illegal, with only slightly more Americans – 53% – approve of the Justice Department indicting Trump over his efforts to remain in office after losing the 2020 election.

With regard to the , 80% of Democrats feel he played an illegal role in the incident, compared with 33% of independents and 15% of Republicans. All told, less than half, or 47% of adults, say he acted illegally.

When it comes to the charges brought against Trump in by Manhattan District Attorney over allegedly covering up hush money payments to porn performer Stormy Daniels over an affair, only about one-third say Trump acted illegally. The news appears worse for the Department of Justice (DOJ) under . Few seem to have trust or confidence in DOJ leadership. As ABC News reported:

Only about 2 in 10 U.S. adults — 17% — say they have “a great deal” of confidence in the people running the Justice Department. The low level of confidence spans the political spectrum, with just 26% of Democrats, 14% of independents and 7% of Republicans saying they have a great deal of confidence in the federal agency. About half of Americans have “only some” confidence in DOJ, while about a third have “hardly any confidence at all.” Republicans are much more likely than Democrats to have hardly any confidence in the Justice Department, 48% to 18%.

“Trump is obviously running for president and the sitting administration is pushing to have their political rival arrested and put in jail,” said Cary Arnold, a 56-year-old Republican from Eldersburg, Maryland. “Just on the surface that's a very, very bad look. That's something that you would expect to see in third world countries that are run by dictators.”

And significantly, ABC News noted:

Overall, 35% of Americans have a favorable view of Trump and 62% unfavorable. Among Republicans, though, seven in 10 view the former president favorably, and about 6 in 10 say they want him to make another run for the White House.

In the end, based on the poll, ABC concluded:

The survey suggests that the unprecedented indictments of a former president have done little to shake up a fundamental divide in the electorate: The majority of Americans disapprove of Trump, but he remains popular within the GOP.

The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll of 1,165 adults was conducted Aug. 10-14, with a margin of error of ± 3.8 percentage points.

  1. god created his globalists and all his globalist puppets to create his hell on earth for all good people and god and his globalists and his demonrat criminal party and his usps CRIMINAL organization know they can’t beat Americans and Trump without committing all their forms of voter fraud .

    • I have read God’s Word in the Bible many times and I have not found any of what you have written about Him to be true. In fact God’s Word specifically says,”All who call on the Name of the Lord Jesus will be saved.” You=Condemnation. God = Salvation. You will know every tree by the fruit that it bares.

  2. The article sure does cite a lot of questionable data. It seems as though the author and the people in the polls are mostly of the far Left politically. The average American with no axe to grind realize all these indictments are BOGUS and politically motivated to stop Trump from being re-elected.NO WAY can he be beaten in an honest election, so evil unconstitutional means are necessary.

    • Do you talk to the average person? If you think you’re the average person, you’re not because you are here on Crespo’s site. Average people watch CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, and also read Fakebook for news.
Trump has a 58% negative rating with the general public. Even worse with the likely voter crowd, 63% negative.

  3. Trump is clearly te Deep State pick for the GOP nomination. He’s not Deep State, but Trumps the easiest to defeat in the General election, unlike DeSantis who appeals to conservatives and independents.
DeSantis is the real threat to the DS, hence all of the negative press and flat out lies circulating on every level about The Governor.

  4. The people who think Trump’s actions in Georgia were illegal are the same people who want to convict him for Jan. 6. The mistake they are making is that people shouldn’t be convicted on perceived intentions ( who knows what’s in someone’s mind ). They need to be convicted for what they actually said in total context. Get it together snowflakes.

    • yea. strange how people hear what they want to hear instead listening to the actual words stated.

trump false impeachment for a phone call with Ukraine. he never asked for anything illegal nor did ask for any quid pro quo. every person who testified in the hearings stated he did not. now unlike Biden who publicly bragged he asked for a quid pro quo that involved his son.

trump so called false impeachment for Jan 6. not one person can provide any reliable sources Trump coordinated or planned with any group coordinated to riot or enter the US Capitol Building. his speech stated “peacefully protest.” yet they will claim HE incited it while all other violent riots incited by the words of Dems are ignored.

Charlottesville. another lie told by the radical left with a few chosen words minus the full context.

GA election is no different. in the phone call there was no clear proof Trump asked anybody to do anything illegal. in fact I am willing to bet every politician has made the same phone call.

bottom line. they will take a few spoon fed words from a statement as factual instead of reading the full context of a statement. this whole article takes carful written words to achieve the results they need. if they were to ask the questions more accurately would clearly change the results and cause most people to think clearer.

  5. The AP polling said Hillary would win by a landslide
AP polling is trying to say more than 51% think trump committed illegal acts…yet the same polling says the largest majority do not trust the DOJ and its leadership?
This contradiction suggests the AP poll was contrived with questions to get the results the biased AP was seeking against Trump.

  6. To the ‘HOUSE’ challenging GEORGIA INDICTERESS:
A long overdue move which should be initiated towards ALL JUDICIAL (OR UN-JUDICIAL) MOVES AGAINST THE 2023-24 ELECTIONS!
As such, ALL LEGAL (OR ILLEGAL) STEPS OF REMOVING A CANDIDATE FROM THE ELECTIONS MUST BE JUDGED AND INCLUDED!
Lawful steps COULD be taken if it would involve IMPEACHMENT OF CANDIDATES IN OFFICE, CHARGED WITH MISUSE OF THE SAME as, in such a case, the SECURITY AND REPUTATION OF THE FEDERAL STATE WOULD BE IN DANGER!
RAISING DOUBT OF ELECTION RESULTS IS A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT OF ALL CITIZENS (and even of foreign publications and/or organisations) which falls under the 1st Amendment of the USA. Using LEGITIMATE RIGHTS CANNOT BE A VIOLATION OF LAW!
ANY ATTEMPT OF DOING SO IS, HOWEVER, AN ATTEMPT OF SERIOUSLY ATTACKING THE CONSTITUTION AND THE ELECTION IN QUESTION.
SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE FOUND TO BE CARRIED OUT, PLANNED, OR ONLY BE ENCOURAGED BY A SITTING PRESIDENT OR GOVERNMENT, THIS SHOULD LEAD TO IMMEDIATE REMOVAL FROM OFFICE AND CHARGES OF HIGH TREASON!
