US Fleet Attacked, Navy Responds

Iranian ship accused of funneling targeting data…

Despite having a naval escort, two U.S.-flagged merchant ships came under fire today in the latest assault on global commerce.

Three ballistic missiles fired from Houthi territory targeted the Maersk Detroit and Maersk Chesapeake; two were intercepted by the guided-missile destroyer USS Gravely, and one splashed down at sea.

Both ships are transporting U.S. cargo.

The latest Houthi aggression came in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The three vessels crossed paths with the Iranian freighter Behshad, leading to speculation it had funneled targeting data to the Houthis.

According to ShippingWatch, the ships have turned around.

Maersk suspended all Red Sea transit for its ships earlier this month. The order didn't apply to its U.S. subsidiary.

The attack comes after eight rounds of U.S.-led strikes on Houthi positions.
