MONDAY – Honoring those who died that day. I was at the Pentagon that fateful day and volunteered at “Ground Zero” (World Trade Center attack site) in Manhattan two days later. We must never forget those brutal Islamist terror attacks or the lives lost and heroes made that day.

WHERE IS ? ON A PACIFIC JUNKET – 9/11 Anniversary: First Lady, defense secretary to honor Pentagon victims 22 years later. There are now 20 and 21-year-old adults in this country who were not born yet when the 9/11 attacks took place.

For a new generation of Marines, 9/11 is history. It's still pitch black and Marine recruits are scurrying around under garish spotlights, stacking their weapons and packs, all under the constant screams of drill instructors who loom over them.

CHINA THREAT

SURE, IT IS – Biden says US outreach to Vietnam is about providing global stability, not containing China. Joe Biden said Sunday his visit to Vietnam to showcase stronger ties with Hanoi was not about trying to start a “cold war” with China.

THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Russia turning to North Korea to resupply arsenal for war in Ukraine. U.S. officials expect North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to visit Russia in the coming days to seal a possible deal on munitions transfer.

Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 565. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian troops had advanced in their three-month-old counteroffensive against Russian occupiers in the east and south.

What an S-400 kill and a spec ops raid reveal about Ukraine's ability to hit Russia. Ukrainian officials said the Neptune missile performed “flawlessly” during the Aug. 23 attack on a Russian S-400 “Triumf” air defense complex.

Space Force, NRO launch ‘Silent Barker' space observation satellites. The U.S. Space Force and the National Reconnaissance Office launched their newest space observation satellites today in a largely classified mission called “Silent Barker.”

How the Space Force's new targeting squadron will scope out adversary space and counterspace capabilities. “Many intel analytical reports focus on the threat and their capabilities; however, we take it one step farther and look at the threat and we identify its vulnerabilities.”

HOMELAND SECURITY

BIDEN DOJ IN DISARRAY – Guantanamo trial for 9/11 mastermind in disarray on 22nd anniversary. A full two decades after their capture, the U.S. military commission “Trial of the Century” against the five accused leaders of the 9/11 attacks appeared finally back on track earlier this year. INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

In US-led drills, Australian and Indonesian forces deploy battle tanks. The Super Garuda Shield drills have been held annually between American and Indonesian soldiers since 2009.

US Navy rearms warship with missile at an Australian port for first time. The Navy's rearming at a port in southeast Australia is a sign of its increasing logistics options Down Under.

US moves troops and equipment within Niger as ‘precautionary measure.' The Pentagon said it is repositioning some troops and equipment within Niger “out of an abundance of caution” following a military coup in July that overthrew the West African country's democratically elected government.

Drones, satellites and more: Army exercise in Poland provides glimpse of the future. Human-sized drones and a giant observation balloon took to the skies of northern Poland this week as a unit at the forefront of the Army's modernization process held its first major reconnaissance exercise. BIDEN'S AFGHAN DISASTER

Former CENTCOM head denies Abbey Gate attack warnings were ignored. Thirteen U.S. troops and hundreds more Afghan civilians were killed on Aug. 26, 2021, in a suicide bombing at the Abbey Gate outside Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport.

Homeland Security agrees to hasten asylum for resettled Afghans. The government processed just 11% of applications submitted via the Operation Allies Welcome program, with thousands still pending.

US MILITARY

Navy veteran repaid unexpected help he received while jailed in Iran. A Navy veteran who was jailed in Iran for several years recently repaid the generosity of a fellow inmate who helped him behind bars.

DON'T GIVE THEM UP – National Guard units in 6 states have held onto Confederate streamers despite a deadline to turn them in. Army Guard units with a Civil War-era lineage were ordered to relinquish the battle streamers from their guidons, but dozens of the streamers have yet to be recovered a week after the deadline.
