The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Iran, marking the most significant congressional challenge yet to President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict.
The measure, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) invokes the 1973 War Powers Resolution and would require the administration to obtain explicit authorization from Congress before continuing hostilities against Iran, except in cases involving an imminent threat to the United States. The vote followed months of growing bipartisan concern over a conflict that began in.
The Justice Department is now being sued after refusing to produce documents on a bizarre raid in which ATF agents gunned down the executive director of Little Rock’s Clinton National Airport.
The nonprofit public interest law form Judicial Watch reports they have “filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) records regarding the fatal shooting of Little Rock, AR, resident and Executive Director of the Clinton National Airport Bryan Malinowski.”
“The Biden ATF’s deadly raid on Bryan Malinowski’s home, in what was essentially a licensing dispute, screams out for a thorough examination,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Slow walking the release of basic information about this raid suggests that the ATF has something to hide.”
Judicial Watch filed the suit after the ATF “failed to respond adequately to an April 16 FOIA request for:”
A. All emails and text messages sent to and from ATF officials regarding Little Rock resident Bryan Malinowski who died in an ATF raid on March 19, 2024.
B. All records related to the raid on the home of Bryan Malinowski, including but not limited to, re-operational briefing documents, raid plans, investigative reports, memoranda, warrants and audio and video recordings.
Malinowski was gunned down by ATF agents in March 2024, after agents carried out an armed pre-dawn raid on his home in response to Malinowski selling firearms from his private collection. Agents conducting the no-knock shot Malinowksi after he apparently mistook them for burglars after they broke into his home without announcing themselves.
Judicial Watch reports that in response to their request “the ATF only produced heavily redacted search warrant court filings.”
Malinowksi did not appear to be involved in any violent activity, make threats or be engaged in any activity that would necessitate an armed pre-dawn raid on his home, instead of carrying out a routine arrest.
While the ATF claims Malinowksi cannot sell his own personal firearms without a federal license, a former federal prosector argues Malinowksi did not break any law, much less one warranting an armed military-force raid.
“Malinowski’s family lawyerand former federal prosecutor, Bud Cummins, reportedly described Malinowski’s gun sales as ‘a hobby and protected by the Second Amendment,’” Judicial Watch reported.
“Malinowski never broke any laws selling the way he did, even when a handful of weapons turned up at crime scenes later,” Cummins testified to a U.S. House committee investigating the shooting.
“Video footage of the raid recently released by X and the Arkansas Times, shows that Malinowski’s wife thought that the law enforcement officers raiding their home were intruders,” Judicial Watch reports.
