A chaotic moment unfolded Wednesday during a Senate Armed Services Subcommittee hearing when Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) physically assisted Capitol Police in removing a protester from the room.
Video from the hearing shows officers attempting to escort a man out of the chamber while he clung to the hearing room door and shouted, “No one wants to fight for Israel!”
CBS News correspondent Alan He identified the protester as Brian McGinnis, who was dressed in what appeared to be a Marine Corps dress uniform.

“McGinnis is a Green Party candidate running for Senate in N.C.,” He wrote on social media. “An antiwar activist filmed the video below.”
The footage shows Sheehy stepping in as Capitol Police struggled to remove the protester, helping officers pull McGinnis away from the doorway. As the confrontation escalated, onlookers in the room began shouting.
“His hand, his hand! Oh! His hand! Oh my God. Oh, shit,” someone can be heard yelling in the clip.
Officers are heard repeatedly telling the protester, “Sir. Sir. Sir. Let go of your hand. Let go of the door. Let go. Let go.”
Another person in the room shouted, “The senator broke his hand — a sitting U.S. senator just broke the hand of a Marine!”
After the protester was removed, Sheehy left the area and was heard exchanging expletives with an audience member who insulted him.
Sheehy later addressed the incident in a statement posted on X.
Capitol Police were attempting to remove an unhinged protestor from the Armed Services hearing. He was fighting back. I decided to help out and deescalate the situation.

McGinnis describes himself on his campaign website as a Marine Corps veteran. According to the site, he served one enlistment as a Light Armored Vehicle crewman until June 2004.
He says his service included a six-month Mediterranean deployment aboard the USS Wasp in 2002, during which he helped establish a training ground in Djibouti, Africa, and participation in the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003.
After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois, where he earned an associate’s degree in education between 2004 and 2006.
The circumstances surrounding McGinnis’ injury during the confrontation remain unclear.
