Nancy Pelosi will take desperate measures to move forward after an intruder attacked her husband Paul in October.

Pelosi told a New York Times columnist that it's been challenging to move on from the brazen attack and it would likely be months before her husband is back to normal.

“The fact that they were after me and then they hit him,” Pelosi said, looking stricken. “He's a strong person, athletic. This has been tough. It's going to be about three or four more months before he's really back to normal.”

Pelosi's daughter, Alexandra, said the altercation affected her mother much more than people realize and prompted the California lawmaker to look to a higher power for help.

“I think that weighed really heavy on her soul. I think she felt really guilty. I think that really broke her. Over Thanksgiving, she had priests coming, trying to have an exorcism of the house and having prayer services,” Alexandra said.

Fr. Arturo Albano, the pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Pelosi's local parish, told the New York Post that no one from his staff was involved.

“As far as I know, no exorcism or priest services were performed at her home,” Albano told The Post.

In October, David DePape broke into Pelosi's San Fransisco home and attacked the lawmaker's husband while demanding information on the then-Speaker's whereabouts. When police arrived on the scene DePape then allegedly struck Paul Pelosi with a hammer.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said in a news conference at the time, “The suspect pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it. Our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disarmed him, took him into custody, requested emergency backup and rendered medical aid.” (RELATED: Nancy Pelosi Says Retirement Plans Will Change After Attack on Husband)
