Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) announced Monday that his daughter, Madison Warner, has died at the age of 36 following a long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health complications.

“We are heartbroken beyond words by the passing of our beloved daughter, Madison, 36, after a decades-long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health issues,” Warner and his wife, Lisa Collis, said in a statement posted on social media. “She filled our lives with love and laughter, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void.”

The couple asked for privacy as they grieve, expressing gratitude for the support they have received from friends and family during what they described as a “profound loss.”

Madison Warner is survived by her two younger sisters. The three daughters were first introduced to the public spotlight in 2001, when Warner was elected governor of Virginia.

Warner has long been an advocate for diabetes research and affordability of insulin, frequently citing his daughter’s experience with Type 1 diabetes in his policy work and legislative efforts.

News of Madison Warner’s death prompted an outpouring of condolences from across the political spectrum. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) said he and his wife were “praying for Lisa and Mark Warner and their family,” calling it “the most difficult of all days.”

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) also offered sympathy, saying her “deepest condolences” were with the Warner family as they mourned their daughter and sister.

Vice President JD Vance called the loss “terrible,” adding, “May God comfort them.” Other lawmakers, including Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and members of Congress from both parties, shared similar messages of support and prayers.
