It seems actress Emma Watson has a bit of a led foot and as a result, she can no longer drive in the UK. She, along with fellow Harry Potter star Zoë Wanamaker, was given a six month ban on driving by a magistrate on July 16.
Both actresses have been caught up in the UK’s increased traffic law enforcement efforts which use a ridiculous number of cameras for what’s arguably mass surveillance of the British population. It’s all in the name of keep everyone safe.
One would think Watson was doubling the speed limit or at least exceeding 100 mph to be banned from driving for half a year. Her offense was going 38 mph in a 30 mph zone while driving her Audi S3.
Yes, we’re just as shocked as you that the woman who’s lectured everyone about the evils of fossil fuels wasn’t in an EV powered by fossil fuels. But also, 8 mph in our view really isn’t that big of a deal.
In fact, in some parts of the US, everyone goes 10 mph over the speed limit and cops don’t bat an eyelash. But in the UK you’re expected to adhere to the speed limit at all times or the all-seeing eyes of the state, the speed cameras, will bust you.
According to The Times, Watson already had nine points on her license before her latest citation, so we guess this isn’t her first rodeo. She also didn’t bother showing up for the court hearing, sending her lawyer instead.
As for Zoë Wanamaker, she earned her six months of no driving thanks to getting caught going 46 mph in a 40 mph zone. Like Watson, she had nine points on her license, so they must roll similarly.

If Watson has “a bit of a led foot” she must be wearing some of those kids’ shoes that blink leds while they walk.
Maybe they need to start saving their teabags for future use.
