ACLU Drops Lawsuit After Trump Administration Restores Planned Parenthood Funding

The American Civil Liberties Union and allied groups have voluntarily dismissed their lawsuit against the Trump administration after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services restored roughly $27.5 million in federal Title X family planning funds to Planned Parenthood affiliates and other health clinics.

In 2025, the ACLU, the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association and other plaintiffs sued HHS over the withholding of Title X grants that support contraceptive care, cancer screenings, STI testing, and other preventive services for low-income patients. The lawsuit alleged the funding freeze was unlawful and threatened access to care for hundreds of thousands of patients across multiple states.

In late December 2025, HHS determined that providers — including Planned Parenthood affiliates — met federal legal requirements and released the previously withheld funds. The agency said civil rights laws were cited in confirming the grantees’ compliance.

After the funding was restored, the plaintiffs moved to voluntarily dismiss the case on Jan. 13.

The reinstated funding affects clinics that had lost Title X grants and allows them to resume participation in the program, impacting an estimated 842,000 patients, according to the plaintiffs.

ACLU officials said the lawsuit was dismissed because the funds at issue were restored, but warned they remain prepared to challenge future actions they view as restricting reproductive health care access.

Separately, a video clip from the Oval Office on Wednesday showed President Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. expressing unfamiliarity with reports that tens of millions of dollars in Title X funds had been released to Planned Parenthood affiliates, raising questions about internal oversight.

Title X is a federal family planning program that subsidizes services including birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing and treatment. Federal law generally prohibits taxpayer dollars from directly funding most abortions.

Title X and Planned Parenthood. Lower income people who cannot afford daily medical care from a physician and not having to use Emergency room care saves money all the way around.

I do not believe in abortions (unless life of mother or child is threatened by their lives) and this was the biggest reason to unfund Planned Parenthood. I still believe local organizations can provide for the rest (health screenings, STD, etc) and the funding can be cut to pay only for emergency abortions-predelivery. Why is this so hard? Because everything is being dragged to the courts. Try using arbitration for a change and leave politics out of it!

So much for not funding abortion. These so-called other “services” are roughly 3% of PP’s budget. 97% are straight up murderous abortions. America can never be redeemed from the killing of God’s children.
