President Joe Biden revealed Thursday his support for suspending the Senate’s filibuster so Democrats can codify Roe v. Wade while they’re still in the majority.
It remains unclear if Biden’s public support for changing the filibuster rule will affect Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.).
Manchin and Sinema have remained firm in opposing changing the chamber’s filibuster rule. Both have supported laws guaranteeing abortion access.
CNBC has more on the president’s remarks made at a press conference in Madrid following the NATO conference there:
His comments represent critical support for suspending a key procedural hurdle that has thus far prevented Senate Democrats from passing legislation that would make the decision federal law. Current Senate rules require the majority party to muster 60 votes to overcome the minority’s attempt to block the advance of a bill, a procedural action known as a filibuster.
“I believe we have to codify Roe v. Wade into law. And the way to do that is to make sure Congress votes to do that,” Biden told reporters in Spain.
But with the Senate split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, the GOP has been able to use the filibuster rule to stop the slim Democratic majority from approving abortion bills.
“If the filibuster gets in the way, it’s like voting rights, we provide an exception for this,” Biden said. “We require an exception of the filibuster for this action.”
Biden’s remarks come one week after the Supreme Court overturned the 49-year precedent set by Roe v. Wade.
The dramatic flip-flop comes after the White House received sharp criticism from progressives over its response to the court’s ruling.

I support the Senate filibuster because it is an important rule to keep these radical policies that the majority in the Senate want to push through in check. The rule is to debate the issues. I hope Senators Manchin and Sinema stick by their principles and hold on to the filibuster. It is too important.
Any time the Democrats can’t win they cheat or change laws.
There is no majority of Americans that wants abortion as the democrats want it. The country is divided almost equally on everything. That is not a majority, it is a tie. So what would any self respecting commie with senility do when confronted with the filibuster limitation that keeps them from killing babies? He would call for an end to the filibuster or better yet just for this time so they can still use it for themselves after they lose in November. There is a name for our moron in chief, it starts with, “a” and ends with, “hole”. Best example of why we have the 2A, in the entire history of America. Time to fire Biden. Worst president ever, worst senator too, probably, pretty much the worst human I have ever seen, if he is indeed human and not just a monkey they dressed up for aping the party’s propaganda. The best option possible is to “SUSPEND BIDEN INDEFINITELY”…..This country must get rid of that Criminal Scumbag at the earliest opportunity. Better yet, suspend Obama and Biden simultaneously and you have a Win…Win Situation!!!!!
To me, it seems as if I President wants to break the law of the land and him being the President and telling people to go out and break the law seems to be an act of treason against his own country. Seems to me it is past time for the people of this country to do something about this President and his Vise President.
Joe Biden somehow has the mistaken idea that he now is God and his minions are his disciples. Our once-great country make never recover from what Biden, Obama, and Soros and the radical left have done, but we can hope for great change in November. I hope we can turn around the current philosophy of the Dems – “Do as I say, not as I do.”
Everything this tottering fool says, thinks or does is as if a mentally challenged man were proposing. It’s bad enough he was sent to Washington DC for 40 years but he’s been elected president by 4 or 5 people. He is senseless.
Biden, or actually his handlers, are trying very hard to over rule our constitution and establish them as the only legal entity of our country. We can only hope we can hold them at bay until we can purge them all from our government and get this country back on the right road.
