The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Iran, marking the most significant congressional challenge yet to President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) invokes the 1973 War Powers Resolution and would require the administration to obtain explicit authorization from Congress before continuing hostilities against Iran, except in cases involving an imminent threat to the United States. The vote followed months of growing bipartisan concern over a conflict that began in.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Friday that it will officially terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals, a move hailed by immigration hawks as a long-overdue step toward restoring the integrity of the American immigration system.

The decision, set to take effect September 2, could result in as many as 500,000 Haitian nationals being required to return to their home country or seek other legal immigration pathways. TPS, originally granted to Haitians in the aftermath of the devastating 2010 earthquake, has been extended for over a decade—far beyond what many view as its intended scope.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem concluded that conditions in Haiti, while still challenging, no longer justify the emergency protections. “This decision restores integrity in our immigration system and ensures that Temporary Protective Status is actually temporary,” a DHS spokesperson said in a statement.

Supporters of the move argue that TPS has too often become a de facto amnesty program, allowing people to remain in the U.S. indefinitely under the guise of temporary humanitarian relief. “The law is clear—TPS is for emergencies, not permanent resettlement,” said RJ Hauman of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). “We either have immigration laws or we don’t. This administration is showing it takes the rule of law seriously.”

President Trump and Vice President JD Vance have both signaled support for stronger border controls and a return to immigration policies that prioritize national interest over open-ended humanitarian relief.

Critics, mostly on the left, have pushed back, citing ongoing instability and violence in Haiti. The U.S. State Department still maintains a “Level 4: Do Not Travel” advisory for the country, citing widespread gang violence and kidnappings.

The issue also has political implications, particularly after years of Democrats pushing for blanket extensions of TPS and aggressive expansion of humanitarian programs. President Trump’s move to include Haiti in his revamped travel ban—announced earlier this year—further emphasizes the administration’s intent.

The move comes on the heels of similar terminations for TPS designations covering Venezuelans, Afghans, and Cameroonians. In May, the Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump administration to proceed with those changes, handing a legal victory to the White House and reinforcing the executive branch’s authority on immigration matters.

Though the administration has signaled a willingness to support lawful immigration reforms in Congress, the end of TPS for Haiti sends a clear message: temporary protections are not a pathway to permanent residency.

What the Biden administration did, in allowing open borders into our country, was a criminal, treasonous act. The Democrats should be held accountable and forced to pay for the astronomical price of all these deportations. Many democrat leaders should go to jail for what they have done!
