A federal judge in San Fransico barred the Trump administration from firing federal workers as the government shutdown drags on.
U.S. District Judge Susan Illston, who was appointed by President Bill Clinton, granted a preliminary injunction that bars the firings indefinitely while lawsuits challenging them play out. She had previously issued a temporary restraining order against the job cuts that was set to expire on Wednesday.
The American Federation of Government Employees and other labor unions have sued to stop the “reductions in force” layoffs, saying the firings were an abuse of power designed to punish workers and pressure Congress.
The Senate on Tuesday failed to reopen the federal government for the 13th time, as the shutdown hit the four-week mark. It failed in a 54-45 vote.
On the 28th day of the shutdown, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) tried to advance the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) and was again foiled by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and the Democratic caucus.
This is a breaking news story. Please check back for updates.

federal Government is bloated with over staff and employees that under perform to protect their positions. same at the end of the year if they find money they have not spent they will go and blow it on a truck full of what ever regareeless if they need it or not. In the mean time tax payers are stuck with an ever growning goverment service employees all doing minimum work to stay in office. We really need to set standards and get rid of between 20 to 30% of them immediately
Every news story containing the words “federal judge ” will inevitably contain bad news for our nation and its citizens.
Ignore this IDIOT. It’s unconstitutional. He can fire anyone that he wants in the Federal Govt. at any time.
