Supreme Court Rejects Trump Bid To Lift New York Trial Gag Order

On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to lift a gag order restricting President-elect Donald Trump from making statements about jurors, court staff, and their families in his New York criminal case.

Justice Samuel Alito wrote the order. There were no additional comments.

The gag order was imposed ahead of the criminal trial in New York earlier this year before Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records stemming from hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign.

Earlier this year, presiding Judge Juan Merchan partially lifted portions of the gag order but maintained provisions aimed at protecting court personnel and jurors.

Trump has continued to challenge the remaining restrictions, insisting they infringe on his First Amendment rights. (RELATED: Judge Grants Trump’s Request To Delay Court Deadlines)

Last week, Trump’s legal team filed a motion requesting Merchan dismiss the conviction last week, citing President Joe Biden recent rhetoric when issuing a sweeping pardon for his own son, Hunter Biden.

The president said his son had been “selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted” and that “raw politics has infected this process,” and Trump’s lawyers argued his remarks are similarly applicable to the criminal case in New York.

Merchan has delayed Trump’s sentencing, previously scheduled for Nov. 26, while he considers arguments from both sides on whether the president-elect is immune from criminal prosecution.

Too bad the story points to a different case and not the Trump 1st amendment decision.

    Public Servant

The Supreme Court erred. Political prosecutions of President Trump are a black stain on America’s history. The Democrat Party sought to remove Trump from the ballot, force him to pay heavy legal fees for myriad fraudulent prosecutions in deep blue urban areas of the country like D.C. and Manhattan and desperately wanted him wearing an orange jumpsuit. They knew that deeply corrupt, senile Joe Biden was no match for the popular former GOP president & his powerful MAGA movement. Malicious New York AG Letitia James was plotting to steal Trump’s fortune and strip him of his assets. Trump’s supporters have been hounded and persecuted by Biden’s FBI for nearly 4 yrs where abuses of their civil rights ranged from imprisonment, solitary confinement, no bail & incarceration without trials. No J6er should be standing trial in D.C. where voters supported Kamala by 93%. This is not a jury of your peers as our laws mandate; that’s a hanging jury. Denying Trump his First Amendment right to protest toxic political prosecutions which nearly derailed the 2024 election, is shameful. Gag orders are patently unAmerican. SCOTUS justices need to read the plain, clear language of the First Amendment– it applies equally to Donald Trump and to Douglass Mackey (sentenced to 7 months in jail for a comical meme about texting to vote for Hillary), another victim of the raging Democrat assault on free speech.
