One week before it's set to begin…
The legal team of former President Donald Trump has filed a last-minute appeal to contest his gag order in the hush money criminal trial and request a change of venue.
Trump is defending himself against 34 charges of falsifying business records in part to conceal a $130,000 payment that then-fixer Michael Cohen made to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The trial is scheduled to begin next Monday in Manhattan, which has a predominantly liberal population.
CNN's Kara Scannell reports:
The paperwork itself is not immediately available, but a source tells CNN that the filing relates to the gag order that has been imposed on the former president, as well as the venue for the trial.
Trump's lawyers have previously contested the gag order and requested to change the location from Manhattan, which generally has a very liberal population.
Jury selection is set to begin on April 15.
