Prominent conservative commentator, historian, and author Victor Davis Hanson announced he will temporarily step away from his podcast to undergo major surgery for a serious health issue.
Hanson shared an update on Friday’s episode of The Victor Davis Hanson Show, telling listeners that he is facing a “serious problem” and that a major medical procedure is scheduled for Tuesday. He said the condition has been difficult to diagnose, with doctors working for roughly nine months to determine the underlying cause before concluding that surgery was necessary.
“I don’t want to go into personal medical details,” Hanson told listeners, acknowledging the toll the prolonged uncertainty has taken. He described the past several months as challenging but said he is hopeful the upcoming procedure will resolve the issue.

Hanson has been a leading voice in conservative intellectual circles for decades, known for blending historical analysis with commentary on modern culture and politics. A classicist and military historian by training, he has written extensively on ancient warfare, Western civilization, and contemporary political trends.
He has held fellowships and academic positions at institutions including the Hoover Institution and Hillsdale College and is a frequent contributor to conservative media outlets.
